About this role
Change the world. Love your job.
Validation engineers are said to have a 'break-the-part' mentality. This means they spend some of their time working to identify the use cases in which the device will stop working as intended and understand the impact and cause of those failures. Sometimes, those are acceptable failures, but others we may need to mitigate for quality, safety, or other reasons. Plus, we want to ensure that our parts are consistently performing to the specifications that we set in our data sheet, and even to some more conservative limits or as defined in the VVCM (Validation/Verification Compliance Matrix). To do this, they must design PCBs and develop automation software that will increase coverage and reduce data collection time. Validation engineers will also design, develop, and implement necessary methods of measuring device performance and troubleshooting any related systems, equipment or device issues that arise. Validation engineers are often working in a post-silicon lab or on the software programs required to run their measurements.
We are looking for a motivated validation engineer to work on new technology characterization for automotive and industrial markets. Based in our Oulu design center, this role will help validate next-generation PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuits) semiconductor products used in millions of devices worldwide.
As a Silicon Validation Engineer, you will define and drive validation strategy from architecture engagement and silicon bring-up through production release. This role combines hands-on technical execution with ownership of validation methodology, complex system-level debug and cross-functional technical leadership across silicon, hardware, software, and system domains.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Define validation plans, methodologies and coverage for next-generation PMIC semiconductor products.
- Perform testing and validation of power electronics hardware.
- Perform root-cause analysis of complex silicon, hardware or system-level issues, translating findings into actionable engineering recommendations.
- Partner with systems, applications, design, and operations teams to resolve technical issues, improve quality an d product robustness.
- Document and present test results in a clear, digestible format tailored to the technical level of the audience.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Validation Engineer, Application Engineer, or in related semiconductor engineering roles focused on laboratory measurements, validation or test development.
- Background in advanced test automation, data analysis, and validation infrastructure development using tools such as Python, LabVIEW, TestStand or similar frameworks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and present findings to stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Goal-oriented and able to deliver on-time results under tight schedules.
- Familiarity with automotive industry standards such as ISO 26262 and ISO 16750.
- Ability to quickly ramp up on new systems and processes.
- Knowledge of PCB design and fabrication processes.
- Proficiency with Claude Code and/or Nigel AI code generation tool to build, execute, a nd validate test automation and code changes.
- Familiarity with issue-tracking tools like Jira and version control systems like Git.
