About the team

The Public Cloud Platform Delivery Team is a unit in the Public Cloud Transformation department. The team focuses on platform operations that manage the overall Azure platform setup, security policies, and service operations. Enable application teams to deliver secure, compliant, and innovative solutions that increase business value. Partner with application delivery teams to innovate, deliver and operate solutions in a fast, secure and compliant way to enable and increase business value.

The Public Cloud Platform Delivery's mission is to

• Design, build and operate secure and compliant cloud platforms and shared services and tools to enhance value-driven adoption.

• Provide an efficient engineering experience via platforms and services aligned with Cloud Technology Management steering & guidance.

This role requires to drive the evolution of Swiss Re’s Azure Cloud & Data Platform into a scalable, governed, and business-aligned product, enabling:

- Enterprise-wide adoption of Cloud and Data capabilities

- Faster realization of data-driven business outcomes

- Strong alignment with risk, compliance, and cloud governance standards

- Product Management & Value Realization (Optional, but willing to learn)

Your Main Responsibilities

As a Senior Azure Databricks Platform Engineer, you will own the strategic direction, engineering excellence, and product evolution of Azure-based Data & AI platforms, enabling secure, scalable, and business-aligned cloud capabilities across the organization.

- Drive implementation of data governance capabilities including data cataloging, lineage, metadata management, and platform controls.

- Establish guardrails and operating standards for responsible AI, data access, and platform usage across the organization.

- Partner with Risk, Security, Architecture, and Compliance teams to proactively manage platform risks and remediation activities.

- Ensure compliance with enterprise governance frameworks, cloud policies, security standards, and regulatory obligations.

- Act as the primary interface between business, engineering, and platform teams

- Influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment

- Ensure adherence to cloud governance frameworks and policies

- Ensure alignment with Divisional strategy, cloud transformation, and business unit needs

- Drive standardization and guardrails for safe AI/data adoption

- Ensure alignment with Divisional strategy, cloud transformation, and business unit needs

- Own the vision, roadmap, and lifecycle management of Azure Data & AI platform services, including Azure Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, and related cloud-native capabilities.

- Define and evolve platform capabilities that enable data engineering, analytics, AI/ML, and self-service data consumption at scale.

- Drive continuous platform modernization, innovation, and adoption aligned with enterprise cloud and data strategies.

About you

The following proven technical skills will be required:

- 12+ years in Cloud Platform Engineering & Data Engineering roles

- 5+ years of hands-on Azure Databricks platform engineering experience.

- Deep expertise in Azure architecture, platform engineering, and enterprise-scale cloud operations.

- Deep understanding of Databricks workspace architecture, account administration, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Lakehouse architecture, and Databricks governance frameworks.

- Experience designing and operating enterprise-scale Databricks platforms supporting analytics, AI/ML, and data engineering workloads.

- Strong expertise in Databricks cluster policies, serverless capabilities, workspace security, model serving, networking, and cost optimization.

- Experience implementing data governance capabilities including catalog management, lineage, metadata management, and access controls.

- Proven delivery in enterprise-scale cloud or data platform environments

- Hands-on expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) such as Bicep and CI/CD Azure DevOps pipeline integration for automated quality and reliability checks

- Strong grounding in Platform engineering concepts: golden paths, paved road tooling, self‑service automation, RBAC, and internal developer platforms (IDPs).

- Experience in Azure landing zone design , platform automation design, DevSecOps tooling, network topology & connectivity, access management & privileged identity design, platform monitoring, security architecture, high availability architecture design.

- Experience in DevOps methodology (preferably DevSecOps), both technically and organisationally, including continuous deployment, delivery pipelines and test environments.

- Good stakeholder communication. Ability to work with Delivery Directors, Security Leads, Architects and engineering teams.

- At ease working in a transformational and complex environment at a fast-pace and getting things done.

- Proficiency in English is required.
