Overview
The Assistant Childcare Manager assists with the daily operations of the center. Responsible for the development and implementation of center activities and classroom curriculums. Conducts classroom observations and supports the classroom staff to enhance instructional quality, interactions, and behavior guidance practices. Maintains children and staff files in compliance with state regulations. Assumes responsibility for the center operations in the absence of the Senior Manager and assists with various office duties. Performs duties to ensure compliance with Virginia State Licensing regulations, the Health Department and the Fire Department.

What you will do

- Effectively oversee the daily operations of the center in the absence of the Senior Manager. Maintain open communication with parents and staff and serve as a main point of contact for any center related issues including, but not limited to accounts, family concerns, classroom management, and behavior guidance. Answer emails and other parent requests in a timely manner. Maintain open communication and demonstrate active listening, with proper tone and body language, with all families, team members and management, and maintains a positive working relationship with all families, team members, and management. Exhibit a professional attitude at all times and maintains respect and cooperation when working with others
- Serve as a coach and mentor for new employees, Senior Lead Teachers, Lead Teachers and Teacher Assistants regarding center operations, policies & procedures, parent/teacher communication applications, and behavior guidance strategies. Encourage high-quality teacher/child interactions that meet best practices set forth by the Virginia Department of Education. Build authentic connections, recognize strengths and weaknesses, earn trust, set goals, solicit feedback, and hold them accountable. Provide proper guidance and counseling as appropriate. Promote teamwork and collaboration among team members.
- Supervise and evaluate the center curriculum for instructional quality and alignment with Virginia’s early learning guidelines. Conduct frequent observations to ensure classroom goals, lesson plans, activities, and positive behavior guidance strategies are being implemented properly and effectively. Provide feedback to Lead Teachers and Senior Manager regarding observations. Manage and evaluate the implementation of various early childhood assessment tools. Assist in coordinating special events and activities for the center to include children, parents, and staff. Responsible for planning and distributing the monthly center calendar and monthly center newsletter.
- Demonstrate an understanding of data entry and basic accounting skills. Accurately enter and maintain customer account and billing information. Conduct weekly and monthly billing to include applicable fees. Assist with timely receipt of payments, entering of payments, distributing receipts, and making deposits. Demonstrate proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Generate financial reports monthly; generate reports and statistics needed and as requested by the Senior Manager.
- Assist in ensuring all classrooms have the necessary materials and equipment needed to support the center curriculum and provide age-appropriate play, fine and gross motor activities, developmental and academic activities. Identify classroom needs in order to maintain our Virginia Quality standing in regard to classroom environment competencies. Prepare lunch and afternoon snack daily and ensure it is provided in accordance with center mealtimes and safety guidelines
- Assists with new hire orientation and training. Assists with planning and implementing continuing education and workforce development for all staff members to include mandatory training programs, child development in-services, CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, and Virginia Quality training courses. Maintains training records, updates staff monthly and holds staff accountable for requirement due dates. Ensures staff records are compliant with Virginia state licensing regulations. Keeps Senior Manager updated to ensure accountability.

Qualifications

Education

- Program Graduate, Early Childhood Education Endorsement Program (Required) or
- Bachelors Degree, Early Childhood Education or Related Field (Preferred)

Experience

- 3-4 years Early Childhood Program experience (Required)
- 2 years Child Care Supervisor (Infants - Preschoolers) (Required)

Licenses and Certifications

- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 90 Days(Required)
- Food Handlers Card (FH) - VA State - ANSI-approved Food Handlers certificate program within 90 Days(Required)
- Certified Medication Administration Training (MAT) - Medical Home Plus Inc within 90 Days(Required)
- Child Development Associate (CDA) - The Care Courses School (required if applicant does not have bachelors degree) (Required)
