The Claim Adjuster, Subrogation is responsible for supporting the Subrogation Unit's recovery efforts across a range of file types, with a primary focus on deductible and Self-Insured Retention (SIR) collections from insured customers, tender expense recoveries, and auto subrogation. This role requires flexibility, decisive decision-making, and a disciplined, organized approach to managing a structured recovery portfolio. The position offers meaningful growth opportunity for an adjuster looking to develop broad subrogation expertise, and reports directly to the Subrogation Unit manager. The Claim Adjuster, Subrogation works closely with internal claims teams and external stakeholders to maximize recovery outcomes and support the unit's overall collection strategy.

Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience.

- Experience in insurance, collections, subrogation, or a closely related field; candidates with a demonstrated ability to manage accounts, communicate professionally with customers, and work within structured processes.

- Background in collections, accounts receivable, claims processing, or subrogation preferred; familiarity with deductible and SIR structures is a plus.

- Experience with auto subrogation is a plus; this role offers the opportunity to grow into broader subrogation responsibilities over time.

Primary Job Functions:

- Identify and pursue deductible and Self-Insured Retention (SIR) recovery opportunities by thoroughly reviewing claim files, policy provisions, and billing records to determine amounts owed by insured customers.

- Collaborate with primary claims adjusters and the Subrogation Unit to gather supporting documentation and coordinate recovery efforts across deductible collections, tender expense recoveries, and auto subrogation files.

- Initiate and manage the collections process for outstanding deductible and SIR balances from insured customers, maintaining consistent follow-up and clear documentation of collection activity and account status.

- Pursue tender expense recoveries in applicable Casualty claims, identifying opportunities and escalating as directed by the Subrogation Unit manager.

- Maintain organized, up-to-date records of all collection activity, correspondence, and account balances across assigned files, ensuring accuracy and compliance with unit procedures.

- Issue written demand correspondence to insureds and communicate clearly regarding outstanding balances, payment expectations, and account resolutions.

- Handle auto subrogation files from identification through resolution, including demand preparation and follow-up with adverse carriers or parties.

- Demonstrate flexibility in managing a varied portfolio of collections and recovery files, adapting to shifting priorities while maintaining disciplined follow-through on all assigned accounts.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Participate in Claim Reviews and claim audits.

- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor.

Skills & Competencies Required:

- Working knowledge of insurance policy provisions, including deductible and SIR structures, and how they apply to the collections and recovery process.

- Familiarity with auto subrogation and tender expense recovery concepts; willingness to learn and apply unit-specific recovery practices.

- Decisive decision-making skills with the ability to evaluate account status, determine appropriate collection strategies, and act with confidence under guidance from the Subrogation Unit manager.

- Highly organized and self-disciplined, with the ability to manage a structured caseload, prioritize competing demands, and meet recovery milestones and deadlines.

- The anticipated salary for this position is $60,000 - $90,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience.
