Position Summary
At the YMCA, a safe, reliable, and well-maintained facility is essential to creating a great experience for our members, staff, and community. As a Technician, you will perform the essential behind-the-scenes work that keeps our YMCA facilities, equipment, and systems operating safely and effectively. This is a hands-on position that requires technical knowledge, problem-solving, and the ability to work independently. You will travel between YMCA properties to perform maintenance, diagnose equipment and facility issues, complete preventive maintenance, and support safety and risk management efforts.

- Identify maintenance concerns and take appropriate corrective or preventive action.
- Complete assigned work accurately and document repairs and maintenance.
- Stay ahead of potential problems through regular inspections and preventive maintenance.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized facility grounds.
- Communicate effectively with staff across YMCA locations.
- Serve as a dependable resource for facility safety and risk management.
What You'll Be Doing
Facility Maintenance & Repairs
- Design, construct, install, repair, and remove various facility equipment, systems, and components.
- Diagnose equipment, system, and facility malfunctions and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections according to established procedures.
- Complete repairs and maintenance to help minimize interruptions to YMCA operations.
- Maintain an appropriate inventory of replacement equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Help ensure facility grounds remain clean and that equipment, litter, and debris are properly stored or removed.
Work Orders & Documentation
- Use the YMCA's work order system to track and document maintenance needs and completed work.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment, systems, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Document processes and corrective actions when addressing facility issues.
- Communicate the status of projects, repairs, and maintenance needs to appropriate staff.
Safety & Risk Management
- Support YMCA safety and risk management efforts across assigned properties.
- Conduct property and facility safety audits.
- Identify potential hazards and take appropriate action to address or report concerns.
- Support staff training and required safety certifications.
- Stay informed of changes in technology, laws, codes, and regulations related to facility maintenance and safety.
- Help ensure facilities provide a safe environment for members, children, families, and staff.
Vendor & Contractor Support
- Help monitor work completed by vendors and contractors.
- Document audits and provide feedback when necessary to ensure work meets YMCA expectations.
- Help ensure outside work is completed safely, promptly, and to appropriate quality standards.
Team & Branch Support
- Travel between YMCA properties to provide maintenance and technical support.
- Work independently while communicating and coordinating with staff at different YMCA locations.
- Serve as a facility maintenance and safety resource for branch teams.
- Complete additional assignments within the scope of the position as needed.

This is an active, hands-on position that requires working in a variety of environments and locations. Technician I team members may work indoors and outdoors, use ladders, access rooftops or confined spaces, and respond to unexpected maintenance needs.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of maintenance or technical field experience required.
- Technical education in a related field preferred.
- Pool maintenance experience strongly preferred.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to effectively coordinate work with staff across multiple YMCA locations.
- Adept computer skills and ability to use electronic work order systems.
- Ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally stoop, bend, climb, and work in varying positions.
- Ability to safely use hands, tools, equipment, and controls.
- Ability to safely navigate ladders, rooftops, crawl spaces, and confined spaces.
- Ability to work outdoors and be exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to maintain a high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
