Job Description:

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of  Audiologist/Speech Pathologist 3  at Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta, located in Decatur, GA.

Salary:  $93,763.00 annually

Job Description:

Under broad supervision, assesses and treats patients with hearing, speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders. Evaluates patients’ needs related to dysphagia and aspiration in accordance with PNS policy. May select alternative communication systems and teach patients how to use them. May fit hearing aids and provide auditory training, as applicable to the assignment. May serve as a lead.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards

- Administers hearing and speech-language evaluations, tests, and examinations to determine the type and degree of impairment using specialized instruments, electronic equipment, and written or oral assessments.
- Supports communication with non-speaking patients through appropriate alternative communication methods, including sign language or computer technology.
- Counsels and instructs patients in techniques to improve hearing and communication, including sign language or lip-reading, as appropriate.
- Develops individualized speech and language exercise programs to improve communication skills.
- Evaluates hearing and speech-language disorders, assessment results, and medical history to develop treatment plans for speech, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing disorders.
- Assesses swallowing function and needs related to dysphagia and aspiration in accordance with PNS policy.
- Examines and cleans patients’ ear canals, as applicable to the assignment and within the practitioner’s scope of practice.
- Fits and dispenses assistive devices, including hearing aids, as applicable to the assignment.
- Maintains accurate patient records throughout care, including initial evaluations, treatment progress, and discharge.
- Monitors patients’ progress and adjusts treatment plans accordingly.
- Plans and conducts treatment programs in consultation with physicians, nurses, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Recommends assistive communication or hearing devices based on patients’ needs.
- Refers patients for additional medical or educational services when appropriate.
- Teaches patients exercises and techniques to improve control and strength of the tongue, jaw, facial muscles, and breathing mechanisms, as clinically appropriate.

Technical Competencies

- Knowledge of typical speech and language development.
- Knowledge of the nature and causes of speech, language, and hearing disorders.
- Knowledge of diagnostic instruments and equipment relevant to the assigned specialty.
- Knowledge of assessment procedures for speech, language, and hearing disorders.
- Ability to develop individualized treatment plans and document patient progress.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and interdisciplinary treatment teams.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in speech-language pathology or audiology, or both, from an accredited college or university and current Georgia licensure and/or certification to practice in the area of assignment and two (2) years of experience at the lower level Aud/Speech Pathologist 2 (HCP011) or position equivalent.
