JOB TITLE:
Assistant Professor of Music (Choral) & Associate Director of Choral Activities
JOB PURPOSE:
As the Associate Director of Choral Activities, the successful candidate will possess a strong background in choral conducting, as well as a demonstrated commitment to supporting a thriving and diverse music program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The College of Arts & Sciences and the Department of Music at the University of Wyoming invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2027. As the Associate Director of Choral Activities, the successful candidate will possess a strong background in choral conducting, as well as a demonstrated commitment to supporting a thriving and diverse music program. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Teach choral ensembles
- Teach coursework in choral methods or choral conducting
- Teach additional music courses within the candidate’s strengths and background as assigned by the chair of the Department of Music
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Choral Activities, Music Education, and Voice faculty
- Maintain a high profile through state, regional, national, and international performances, adjudication, and conference presentations
- Recruit actively for the Department of Music
- Engage in collegial participation and service to departmental, college, university, and professional activities
- Foster relationships with UW alumni and state and regional music educators
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
The successful candidate will possess a substantive performance profile IN CHORAL CONDUCTING, evidence of student/alumni success at the college level, and a commitment to working effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate (DMA/PhD) in Choral Conducting or Music Education required
ABD accepted at the time of application, but degree will need to be completed and obtained by time of hire
- Minimum of three years of successful music teaching in secondary public/private schools or at the college/university level
Experience Evaluation
Minimum experience requirements are evaluated on a full-time equivalent (FTE) basis. Relevant part-time experience will be prorated based on hours worked. For example, two years working an average of 20 hours per week is equivalent to approximately one year of full-time experience.
Applicants must include the average hours worked per week for all current and previous positions. Failure to provide this information may affect the evaluation of qualifications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Evidence of successful college teaching experience, specifically in choral music education coursework or applied voice lessons
- Evidence of an emerging record of creative activity

About the Department:
Small enough for personal attention, yet large enough to support musical activity at the highest level, the University of Wyoming Department of Music offers innovative and challenging curricula that prepare graduates for 21st-century opportunities. The Department of Music is home to 150+ music majors and minors as well as 35 full-time and part-time faculty. Through coursework, recitals, and performances by our 15 ensembles, students gain experience to prepare them for lifelong music making.
Undergraduate students in the Department of Music can pursue degrees in performance, jazz performance, and music education, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Graduate students have the opportunity to earn the Master of Music in Performance or Master of Music Education degrees. Additionally, the Department of Music offers Music Entrepreneurship, Audio Technology, and Performer’s certificates.
The Department of Music resides in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts. The exquisite facilities feature a 700-seat Concert Hall and a 100-seat Recital Hall in addition to studios, classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and practice rooms.
