Your Role at KIK

Join our team as a Maintenance Mechanic 3, 1st shift 6:00am - 4:30pm, Monday-Thursday with weekends per business need), where you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance of machinery and equipment. We are looking for an experienced and motivated PLC Controls Technician to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial automation and control systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and related equipment used in automated production environments. This position has an hourly rate ranging from $38.00 - $42.00 per hour as well as a $1.00 differential.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial electrical, automation, mechanical, pneumatic, and process-control equipment supporting the Salem plant’s bleach, household cleaning product, and chlorine-processing operations.
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and control systems, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms. Use PLC interfaces, HMIs, and SCADA systems to interpret alarms, monitor equipment status, identify probable causes, and safely restore operation.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, control drawings, ladder logic, and technical documentation to support effective troubleshooting and repair.
- Perform routine, preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance on automated manufacturing equipment, motors, VFDs, sensors, relays, valves, instrumentation, piping systems, and associated controls.
- Maintain, inspect, and repair equipment used in the unloading, transfer, storage, and processing of chlorine railcars and related chemical-processing systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, instrumentation, and control-system issues to minimize downtime while maintaining safe operating conditions.
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Quality, and HESS to investigate equipment failures, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and improve equipment reliability.
- Support capital, automation, equipment-upgrade, and continuous-improvement projects through installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance input.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, electrical drawings, and control-system documentation. Support configuration control by ensuring approved PLC programs, HMI applications, and drawings are properly backed up and available.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical, automation, and chemical-processing equipment.
- Train maintenance technicians and production personnel on equipment operation, troubleshooting, safe-work practices, and automated-system best practices.
- Follow all Company safety requirements and applicable environmental, health, safety, electrical, and chemical-handling regulations, including lockout/tagout, confined space, hazard communication, and exposure-response procedures.
- Through KIK, successfully complete and maintain required HazWhopper training and Incident Response to support this process and the Operators of this process, KIK internal chlorine training, and respirator fit testing.
- Serve as an active site First Responder for chemical or other emergency incidents and participate in related drills, response activities, and equipment-readiness requirements.

What You’ll Bring

- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or related field. Bachelor’s degree a plus.
- Experience with HMIs, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), SCADA systems, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.).
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, control panels, motor control circuits, and safety circuits.
- Familiarity with OSHA, NEC, and NFPA 70E standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours or respond to emergencies as needed.
- Demonstrated experience working with PLC-controlled systems, such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms, in an industrial, manufacturing, or chemical-processing environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot, monitor, and support PLC-based equipment and control systems, including interpreting ladder logic, responding to alarms, and using HMI or SCADA interfaces.
- This role is not responsible for PLC programming or modifying control logic; however, the Maintenance Mechanic III must effectively collaborate with Engineering, Controls, or qualified technical personnel to diagnose and resolve equipment and control-system issues.
- Experience working in or supporting hazardous chemical environments. Experience with chlorine handling, chlorine railcar unloading, transfer, or processing systems is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of process-safety practices, including lockout/tagout, confined space, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, and chemical-exposure response procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation, valves, piping systems, automated controls, and related equipment used in chemical-processing operations.
- Ability to work safely with and around hazardous chemicals while strictly following site-specific procedures, training requirements, and environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Ability to successfully complete and maintain HAZWOPER training, KIK internal chlorine training, respirator fit testing, and First Responder participation requirements.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
