Position description
We are seeking a commercially minded finance professional with 10+ years' post-qualified experience (PQE), ideally gained in a large, customer-focused organisation within the utilities, energy, telecommunications or financial services sectors. Our current vacancy is within our Customer Solutions Business Unit, however this process may be used to fill vacancies across ESB’s Business areas.
As Finance Business Partner for the B2B customer segment, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial and commercial success of one of Ireland's leading energy businesses. You will partner with senior leaders across sales, customer operations and commercial teams to provide strategic insight, challenge and guidance that support key business decisions. This is a high-impact role that combines commercial analysis, financial planning and performance management to drive profitable growth, strengthen competitive positioning and support the delivery of strategic initiatives. Partnering closely with the leaders of the B2B businesses across sales, pricing and customer operations, the role provides finance and commercial guidance to drive profitability, optimise competitive position, support strategic initiatives, and deliver sustainable growth.
This role will support ESB’s strategic objectives of empowering customers and decarbonising the electricity system by supporting the team to bring innovative solutions to customers to manage their power requirements and decarbonise their business operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Effectively partner with the B2B leadership teams to drive commercial performance
- Manage the financial performance of B2B businesses
- Identify opportunities to enhance value and meet longer term strategic goals
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting and planning processes for the B2B portfolio
- Support the development of innovative customer decarbonisation solutions
- Ensure strong governance compliance and reporting across the B2B portfolio
- Support the leadership, development and mentoring of the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture
Leadership responsibilities:
- Senior managers are part of the senior leadership group and play a key role in the management of their respective business units, providing leadership, direction and input to strategy both within Business Unit and across the wider organisation
- Senior Managers are responsible for the delivery of business targets through the effective management of people and processes in a safe, inclusive and cost-effective manner
- They are also accountable for and are expected to deliver strong financial or other business outcomes through individual and team performance against stretch targets
- Leading and delivering organisational change is also a key responsibility
Experience and qualifications
Essential
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of partnering with senior stakeholders, influencing decision-making, and delivering financial insights that drive business performance and strategic outcomes. Key attributes will include:
- Qualified accountant with minimum 10 years post qualification experience or equivalent
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to translate financial data and market feedback into actionable insights
- Experience supporting revenue growth, cost optimisation, and profitability improvement initiatives
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge and support senior leaders
- Strong financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and performance management capability
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Experience of leading and developing a team that collaborates closely across the full finance function
- Proactive, collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and delivering results.
Location
This role is located at Electric Ireland’s offices in Swift Square, Santry, Co. Dublin.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week . All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.
Reporting to
This role reports to the Head of Finance, Customer Solutions and works closely with other senior leaders across the business.
