Job Summary
The Accounting Manager oversees all plant-level accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and effective support for production, supply chain, and leadership teams. This role manages daily accounting operations, cost accounting functions, inventory controls, and compliance for a high‑volume aluminum can manufacturing facility. The Accounting Manager partners closely with operations to drive cost transparency, improve financial performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- This position is assigned by top management within the plant.
- Provide accounting services for the plant.
- Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
- Responsibilities include analyzing trends, cost, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
- Performs a variety of tasks assigned by Plant manager and corporate.
- Generating a monthly report to detail activities at the plant. This report will include all plant activities that impact the financial status of the plant.
- In case of absence, this position will be the responsibility of the Plant Manager/corporate support.
- Assists in promoting and maintaining a robust food safety culture within the plant and the organization the organization.
- Prepare and review plant-level financial statements, variance analyses, and monthly closing reports.
- Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, GAAP, and internal controls.
- Maintain documentation and schedules for internal and external audits.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure tracking, and depreciation schedules.
- Analyze production costs, scrap/spoilage, labor utilization, and overhead absorption.
- Monitor performance of manufacturing KPIs and identify cost drivers impacting financial results.
- Perform margin analysis, product costing, and profitability reporting.
- Provide real-time financial support to operations, engineering, maintenance, and quality teams.
- Oversee inventory accuracy for raw materials (aluminum coil, inks, coatings), WIP, and finished goods.
- Supervise and develop accounting staff, including AP/AR, payroll, and plant-level accountants.
- Provide training to operations leaders on cost controls and financial processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.· CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; at least 2 years in manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Experience in metal packaging, high-speed manufacturing, or process-driven production is a plus.
- Strong background in cost accounting, standard costing, and inventory accounting.
- Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards) and advanced Excel or data tools.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks.· Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial teams.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team‑building skills.
Work Environment
- Fast‑paced, high-volume manufacturing environment with frequent interaction with production floors. Requires regular presence in plant operational areas to gather data and support leadership. Typical work schedule is day shift with occasional extended hours during month-end close or audits. May involve exposure to noise, moderate temperatures, and handling of materials. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required. Ability to lift 50lbs or more. Able to perform in a high-pressure fast paced environment.
