Purpose
The Operations Manager oversees the facility's production operations by planning, organizing, directing, and controlling daily activities and performance.
Essential Duties
- Schedule personnel daily to meet production goals cost-effectively.
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining established quality standards.
- Direct daily production and yard operations.
- Oversee vehicle movement into the production area.
- Ensure personnel have the support, tools, and supplies required for production.
- Develop and manage production quality gates.
- Conduct audits and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Monitor operations, assist as needed, and adjust activities when appropriate.
- Communicate daily with leads, staff, and office personnel to identify and meet staffing, supply, and operational needs.
- Ensure new personnel receive appropriate training.
- Manage progressive discipline, including counseling, warnings, and other corrective actions, to maintain a productive work environment.
- Document performance issues and coordinate corrective actions with the Terminal Manager.
- Manage safety programs that maintain a safe, clean workplace and comply with local, state, and OSHA requirements.
- Document accidents and injuries on the appropriate forms and notify relevant customers, vendors, and company personnel.
- Promote a positive work environment through professional conduct and respectful communication with customers, vendors, coworkers, and management.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Ensure all associates and the Operations Supervisor follow company policies and procedures.
- Administer safety programs that maintain a safe, clean workplace and comply with local, state, and OSHA requirements.
- Assist with maintaining equipment and company vehicles.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
- Establish objectives and procedures for assigned activities, set annual objectives for direct reports, and review Operations Supervisors' objectives.
- Select and retain qualified direct reports and recommend their compensation.
- Direct, monitor, and evaluate personnel performance while coordinating activities.
- Maintain effective communication within the area of responsibility.
- Keep associates informed about company and facility plans and progress.
- Consult with management on policies and actions and ensure compliance within the area of responsibility.
- Partner with Human Resources on personnel matters to ensure consistent compliance and recommend improvements to policies and procedures.
- Ensure each direct report clearly understands their duties, responsibilities, authority, and accountability.
- Assist with snow removal and other property maintenance as needed.
- Adapt productively to change.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
- Promote a positive work environment through professional conduct and respectful communication with customers, vendors, coworkers, and management.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Work effectively in a variety of situations.
Knowledge, Skill, Abilities Required:
- Experience with internal and customer computer applications, such as AS400/VIPS, is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including intermediate Excel and Access skills.
- Strong knowledge of operational and office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with customers, associates, and the public.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong command of English spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Working knowledge of invoicing and billing, including routine business mathematics and accounts payable and receivable.
- Ability to perform varied duties requiring substantial independent judgment.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and practices.
- Excellent planning, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Ability to produce accurate reports and information.
- Ability to drive vehicles with automatic or manual transmissions.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to score at least 80% on the driver safety test.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
