About this role
The Field Manager is responsible for the operational leadership, performance, safety, quality, wellbeing and development of a team of field engineers delivering planned preventative maintenance or reactive telecoms infrastructure services across the Genesis Maintenance contract.
This is a visible, hands-on leadership role with clear end-to-end accountability for the team’s results. The Field Manager owns team utilisation, productivity, safe working, quality, compliance and customer delivery. Successes are recognised as team achievements, while failures, risks and shortfalls must be actively owned, investigated and managed through timely corrective action, coaching, performance management and escalation where required.
The Field Manager is the key link between engineers, operational planning, customers and senior management. They are expected to know their people, understand the work taking place across their area, remove barriers to delivery and create a culture in which standards, accountability and continuous improvement are consistently reinforced.

- Monitor workload, attendance, travel, job progress, completions, delays and operational risks, intervening early where delivery is at risk.
- Proactively resolve resource conflicts, access issues, technical blockers and customer escalations, involving relevant support functions where needed.
- Review service failures, missed commitments and repeat issues, establish root causes and implement actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate operational awareness and provide clear, evidence-based performance updates to senior management.
Quality & Right First Time Delivery
- Review quality results, audit outcomes, defects, rework and recurring failure themes, ensuring findings are communicated to the relevant engineer and acted upon.
- Implement coaching, briefings, targeted support and performance improvement actions where standards are not met.
- Work collaboratively with the Quality Team, operational colleagues, systems teams and supply chain to resolve issues and improve field completion standards.
- Ensure corrective actions are completed, recorded and followed through to effective closure.
Health, Safety & Safe Working
- Ensure engineers comply with Health and Safety legislation, company procedures, client requirements, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Conduct regular site visits, safety conversations and field engagements to verify standards in practice.
- Ensure incidents, near misses, unsafe acts and safety concerns are reported, investigated and managed appropriately.
- Implement corrective actions and lessons learned, and intervene immediately where unsafe working or unacceptable risk is identified.
- Ensure engineers have suitable competence, equipment, PPE and information to undertake work safely.
Resource, Capability & Workforce Planning
- Plan and forecast resource requirements to meet current and future operational demand.
- Balance workloads across the team, ensuring work is allocated fairly, efficiently and in line with competence and geographic requirements.
- Identify skills gaps, training needs, succession risks and future workforce requirements.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, probation reviews, competence development and succession planning.

- Oversee company vehicles, tools, plant, equipment and other assets assigned to the team.
- Ensure engineers have the resources required to complete work safely, efficiently and to the expected quality standard.
- Monitor vehicle compliance, condition, maintenance and utilisation, addressing concerns promptly.
- Promote responsible use, care and accurate recording of company assets and equipment.
Customer, Stakeholder & Commercial Management
- Build effective relationships with customers and key internal stakeholders, representing the business professionally at all times.
- Act as an escalation point for operational concerns, service risks and customer issues within the area of responsibility.

- Understand the commercial and contractual impact of poor utilisation, repeat visits, rework, missed service levels and non-compliant delivery.
- Work collaboratively across operations, planning, quality, SHEQ, commercial, supply chain and systems teams to improve outcomes.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Proven experience leading field-based engineering teams in telecoms, critical infrastructure, maintenance or a comparable operational environment.
- Strong people leadership skills, with experience of setting expectations, coaching individuals and managing underperformance.
- Experience managing operational KPIs, utilisation, productivity, quality and service delivery performance.
- Practical understanding of Health and Safety responsibilities, risk management and safe systems of work.
