Job Summary:
The Campus Worship Pastor provides spiritual leadership and sets the standard for worship craft and excellence at their campus. This role cultivates a strong culture of worship where people encounter God and experience His presence, helping create a weekend experience that both the churched and unchurched love to attend. The Campus Worship Pastor owns the quality and execution of worship across all campus services and environments, ensuring alignment with Gateway’s worship vision, values, and standards. This role leads weekend worship hands-on while equipping and overseeing the leaders responsible for worship within Kids, Youth, and Young Adult environments. The Campus Worship Pastor must demonstrate exceptional musical and platform leadership while developing people, building healthy teams, and managing others effectively.
Principal Job Responsibilities:
- Leads worship at one campus, owning its plan within the campus operating plan
- Delivers the church-wide standard for worship locally, adapting the expression without changing the standard
- Recruits, hires, leads, trains, develops, and provides accountability for Worship Team
- Builds and stewards the Serve Team for the ministry: recruiting, training, retention, and appreciation
- Owns the ministry budget for the area and spends within the approved threshold
- Pastors the people the ministry reaches, through care, prayer, and presence
- Participates in the cross-campus monthly meeting led by Central Worship
- Reviews the metrics for the ministry and makes decision accordingly
- Prepares and executes the weekend worship set with a high level of excellence, and ensures the worship team is prepared to minister
- Cultivates talent and character across all worship platforms at the campus
- Leads the pre-service meeting and rehearsal, and leads ministry moments from the platform and with the team on rotation
- Provides oversight of worship for Kids, Youth, and Young Adult environments through the leaders over those areas rather than hands-on
- Collaborates with the oversight pastor on service transitions, timing, and close of service
- Creates and grows a culture of worship at the campus, where people come in hungry to touch God and are able to
- Holds a ministerial license to minister, preach the gospel, and fulfill the work of serving God's kingdom, valid for the duration of pastoral ministry at Gateway Church, and carries spiritual authority within the church
- Serves the congregation by officiating weddings, funerals, baby dedications, communion, and other ministry services
- Is present and serving at weekend services and churchwide events as the ministry calendar requires, and is available to the congregation for pastoral care as needs arise
- Teaches through precept and by lifestyle example
- Performs other duties as assigned.
As a member of the Gateway Church team, this position is expected to support, recruit, and develop Serve Team members, and to serve alongside the broader team as ministry and organizational needs arise.
General Skills & Qualifications:
- A clear passion for Jesus and a strong biblical foundation
- Clear and effective communicator with both large and small groups
- Demonstrated ability to gather, develop, and deploy staff and volunteers
- Strong critical thinking, and the ability to manage ambiguity and lead others through change
- Strong musical craft and talent, with proficiency as a worship leader on voice and at least one instrument
- Able to cultivate both talent and character in worship team members
- Comfortable leading from a platform and carrying ministry moments with a congregation
- Comfortable holding others accountable with clarity and care
- Demonstrated emotional and relational intelligence
- Willingness and ability to engage in courageous conversations
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to hold several priorities at once
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to learn and function within new software and systems
Education/Certification(s):
- Four or more years of worship ministry experience — required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience — required
- Licensed as a minister, or eligible to be licensed upon employment — required
- Prior experience leading worship in a multisite church environment — preferred
