Job Summary
Vinik Sports Group and The Tampa Bay Lightning are seeking a reliable, eager, and professional individual to serve as Communications Game-Night Assistant during home games at Benchmark International Arena. This is a part-time position supporting the Communications department with media relations and press box operations on game nights.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Pregame
- Greet media members, broadcast personnel, NHL scouts and other credentialed guests upon arrival.
- Distribute game-night credentials and provide assistance with credential-related questions.
- Help ensure media and other credentialed personnel are directed to the appropriate areas of the arena.
- Assist Communications staff with additional pregame media operations as needed.
During the Game
- Assist with press box operations throughout the game.
- Distribute statistics, line charts, game notes and other materials to media and press box guests.
- Make game-related announcements over the press box public address system.
- Provide general assistance to media members, broadcasters, scouts and Communications staff.
Postgame
- Assist with postgame media availability and interview operations.
- Record player and coach postgame interviews.
- Upload interview recordings to the Tampa Bay Lightning Online Press Box in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assist Communications staff with additional postgame responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Six months previous experience in guest services, hospitality, event operations, or a related field preferred.
- Individuals pursuing or interested in careers in communications, public relations, sports media, journalism, or related fields
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong customer-service mindset with the ability to professionally interact with media members, broadcasters, NHL personnel, guests, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive team, player, or organizational information.
- Dependable, punctual and comfortable working in a fast-paced live-event environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Comfortable making announcements in front of a press box audience.
- Basic familiarity with hockey and the NHL is preferred.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in office and arena environment that can be exciting, loud and distracting
- Ability to work extended hours including late nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
- Ability to lift/carry/move up to 25lbs
- Ability to work in cold/hot indoor and outdoor temperatures
- Ability to use hands and fingers on office and mobile technology
- Ability to work in areas that can become crowded with equipment and/or people
- Ability to move comfortable throughout the arena with minimal accommodations
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time, walk long distances and climb stairs.
- Ability to work comfortable around special effects including, but not limited to: haze, strobe lights, lasers, etc
- Must be able to walk up to 0.5 miles to and from designated employee parking areas, including in varying weather conditions and during high-traffic event times
