Today, Piedmont Plastics is currently hiring for an Engineering Manager, Business Applications. This individual will
lead the application development team responsible for the companys in-house ERP and related business applications along with overseeing technical architecture, development standards, application performance, feature development, technical debt, and platform health. They will also partner with the Product Owner to translate business priorities into technical requirements and development plans.
Along with the mentioned duties above, this role will:
People Leadership
- Leads, mentors, and develops the engineering team, promoting collaboration and the company culture.
- Manages hiring, performance reviews, goal-setting, and ongoing job performance feedback
- Supports career development and succession planning to build bench strength for key technical roles
Technical Direction
- Sets and maintains technical architecture for internal applications and 3 rd -party integrations
- Guides technical direction, conducts code/design reviews, and enforces coding, pull request, and branching standards
- Manages the team's testing strategy including test coverage standards, automated testing frameworks, regression testing and general QA practices
- Reviews and optimizes applications for performance and reliability across database, API, and UI layers
- Oversees CI/CD pipeline strategy and deployment practices
- Identifies and prioritizes technical debt and proactive enhancements (upgrades, package updates, deprecations, architecture improvements)
- Evaluates and recommends third-party tools, environments, and AI-assisted development tools to improve efficiency
- Oversees secure coding practices in partnership with IT Security & Compliance
Delivery & Planning
- Partners with the Product Owner and stakeholders to prioritize new work against technical debt and platform stability
- Estimates, sequences, and delivers work against the prioritized backlog
- Communicates project status, risks, and timelines to the CIO and senior leadership
Cross-Functional & Operational
- Coordinates with IT Systems Support/Help Desk leadership on cross-training ahead of major releases
- Oversees software engineering related Help Desk tickets to ensure timely, professional resolution
- Manages relationships and troubleshooting with development-related vendors and integration partners
- Participates in disaster recovery planning and testing
To be successful in this position, an ideal candidate will have:
- Five or more years of software engineering experience or at least two years in software engineering management
- Proficiency in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) fundamentals and processes, including design, documentation, testing, and tooling
- Practical experience utilizing automated testing tools, particularly for unit testing
- Demonstrated leadership, team development, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to analyze information, identify issues, evaluate alternatives, make sound decisions, and ensure accuracy in technical work.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects effectively and succeed in a fast-paced environment
