About this role

POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Perform duties as directed and in accordance with Federal, Provincial, and Municipal regulations. Operate and maintain boilers, engines, compressors, and auxiliary equipment that supply steam, heat, cooling, light, refrigeration, compressed air, and other plant utilities.

Boiler Room & Waste
Water Treatment Plant
(WWTP)
Operate and maintain the power in a safe operating condition.
Operate and maintain Waste water Treatment Plant.
Operate and maintain heating and hot water systems.
Operate and maintain the ammonia and glycol refrigeration system.
Perform all legally required inspections and document pertinent information in the logbook.
Notify the Plant Engineer/ Chief Power Engineer or acting Chief Power Engineer of any irregularities or concerns related to plant operations.
Meet all legal requirements as stated by Federal and Provincial laws.
Monitor and maintain air filter/intake and blower systems to eliminate any potential downtime.
Monitor and maintain compressed air systems.
Maintain cleanliness of the boiler room and WWTP systems.
Follow directions from the Chief Power Engineer or Acting Chief Power Engineer as specified.
Maintenance
Observe mechanical devices in operation and troubleshoot equipment failures on off shifts.
Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
Replace or repair downed equipment.
Inspect used equipment to determine when preventative maintenance should occur.
Perform preventive maintenance throughout plant but the boiler room will be given priority.
Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
Repair or replace defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
Lubricate and clean parts.
Meet routine inspection and service schedules.
Complete work orders as directed.
Position Charter – POWER ENGINEER
Request parts (stock and equipment) for purchasing and implementation.
Processes/Shipping
Prepare and ship cream yeast as required after hours, and weekends as required.
Perform HACCP CPP monitoring checks for cream shipments as per HACCP plan.
Monitor the cold room temperatures and adjust fan cooling units as required.
Safety
Meet all provincial and Federal codes.
Advise Supervisor of any safety concerns or infractions.
Maintain WWT safety systems.
Monitor H2S.
Maintain confined space entry systems.
Power Engineers are first responders and must have First Aid Training.
Asset Management
Maintain spare parts stock levels for essential equipment.
Advise supervisor of any short comings regarding parts or equipment.
Maintain and inspect essential spare equipment regularly as to meet regulations and to avoid any potential downtime.
Meet two-hour interval inspections of WWT to ensure stability.
Uphold proper testing and maintenance of WWT pant.
Transfer, sample, and mix WWT sludge as directed by the Engineering and Project Manager.

Qualifications

A COMBINATION OF THE LISTED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE IS PREFERRED
Fourth class inter-provincial steam ticket.
Capable of performing maintenance on primary plant equipment.
A working knowledge of steam application.
Competent in operating refrigeration systems.
Millwright ticket.
Experience with operating a drill press, grinder, mill and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
Refrigeration ticket.
TDG training.
OTHER FACTORS
Occasional overtime may be required.
Must be available to come in on emergency call ins.
Must be trained in H2S alive, confined space entry, WHMIS, HACCP, SQF, GMP, fork truck certification and safe work practice.
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and listen at the same time within a noisy manufacturing environment.
The employee is regularly required to stand or sit for long periods of time, climb stairs, use a ladder, balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Employee may use hands or fingers to handle or feel objects, use tools, or manipulate equipment controls; reach with hands and arms.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works with moving mechanical parts; work in high places; in outside weather conditions; and with hazardous chemicals and vibration.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and /or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The ability to perform in a noisy, humid, hot, cold and high-volume machine production environment.
The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision. Visual depth perception and the ability to adjust focus is required.
