Frontier Energy is seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Energy Analyst to support multifamily energy efficiency programs. This role independently conducts building energy audits, identifies energy efficiency opportunities, calculates electric and natural gas savings, and provides practical recommendations that move projects toward implementation.
The ideal candidate brings strong multifamily building science and energy analysis experience, along with the ability to lead on-site audits, serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, mentor less experienced staff, and provide quality assurance to support program standards and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Energy Audits & Analysis
- Independently plan, conduct, and document comprehensive multifamily building energy audits, traveling throughout Frontier Energys Minnesota client service area.
- Evaluate HVAC, boilers, domestic hot water, pumps, motors, variable-frequency drives, lighting, controls, building envelope, and other applicable systems to identify measures and calculate electric and natural gas energy savings.
- Apply Minnesota Technical Reference Manual (TRM) methodologies, program requirements, engineering calculations, field measurements, equipment specifications, utility data, and operating conditions to develop recommendations.
- Assess the technical applicability, energy savings, cost-effectiveness, and available incentives for recommended measures.
- Develop audit reports that clearly communicate findings, calculated savings, and recommended actions.
- Work with project engineers to evaluate custom measures and complete additional analysis when appropriate.
- Provide technical QA/QC of audits, calculations, and recommendations prepared by other team members.
Technical Leadership
- Mentor less experienced analysts in building systems, field auditing, energy calculations, and application of Minnesota TRM and program requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on HVAC, boilers, domestic hot water, pumps, drives, lighting, controls, building envelope, and other applicable measures.
- Contribute to improvements in audit procedures, calculation tools, training, and quality control.
Customer & Market Engagement
- Serve as a technical advisor, educating customers about energy efficiency, supporting their navigation of program requirements to maximize rebate incentives, and delivering persuasive yet genuine communication that influences customers choices for measurable program impact (energy savings).
- Work with contractors and trade allies to clarify technical recommendations, equipment requirements, and program opportunities.
- Present audit findings, energy savings, recommendations, and available incentives to technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Skills
- Relevant energy auditing or building science certification, or ability to obtain an approved certification after hire; AEE Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) or BPI Building Analyst Professional preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in building energy audits, assessments, commissioning, HVAC analysis, or related building energy work.
- Experience evaluating building systems, identifying energy efficiency measures, and calculating energy savings using established engineering methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and working knowledge of domestic hot water, pumps, motors, lighting, controls, and building envelope measures.
- Ability to independently conduct site audits, perform technical analysis, and clearly communicate recommendations to customers.
- Strong customer service, collaboration, problem-solving, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Ability to safely access multifamily building environments, including mechanical rooms, stairs, and rooftops.
- Must be able to independently coordinate regional travel, including occasional after-hours and overnight travel.
Preferred Skills
- Experience conducting multifamily building energy audits and applying the Minnesota TRM or similar utility technical reference manuals.
- Experience supporting utility energy efficiency programs.
- Advanced knowledge of multifamily HVAC, boilers, domestic hot water, heat pumps, and building electrification.
- Experience working with contractors, trade allies, and equipment vendors to move energy efficiency measures from recommendation through installation.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical review of other energy professionals.
- Strong ability to influence and build trust through technical credibility, collaboration, and authentic communication.
