GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for supporting the administrative and clinical operations of the Rheumatology team including, but not limited to: prior-authorization services, lab result management, clinic preparation and patient communication. Will also be utilized as back up to support the Revenue Cycle Management of the Infusion center including medication purchasing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Correct and update Registration Information to ensure accuracy in claims filing as identified in the patient account.
Consults with the appropriate provider to obtain clearance that treatment regimen is considered medically necessary before initiating request to the insurance plan.
Verifies eligibility and notifies appropriate parties if eligibility has termed.
Processes insurance referrals as needed, based upon insurance plan.
Submits medical records, works with the provider on necessary documentation, if necessary, to obtain prior-authorization for rheumatology medications.
Notifies clinical staff, related physician and supervisor of any delays in obtaining authorization.
Schedules Peer-to-Peer calls when necessary.
Oversee rheumatology lab orders and tracking of outstanding results within the EMR. Remind patients to complete lab work prior to their appointment accordingly.
Review Dexa screening forms and schedule Dexa scans accordingly.
Oversee the physicians schedules to ensure all appointment slots are maximized daily. Work the patient waitlist. Schedule office appointments for patients when needed.
Assist with issuing prescriptions, physical therapy orders, lab orders, work restrictions, and other orders per physician instruction.
Assist in receiving, documenting, and handling rheumatology calls. Take messages as requested and process appropriately.
Assist in ensuring that all patient requests and outstanding inquiries are responded to on the same business day. If an answer cannot be obtained, the patient is notified that their question will be addressed the next business day.
Learn the RCM and medication purchasing for the Infusion center to serve as back up support and assist as directed.
Work with physician and staff to ensure quality patient care and services are provided. Ensure compliance with clinic standards of quality patient care.
Travel to other locations as needed
Maintain strictest confidentiality.
All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
One year experience in a health care setting, preferably Rheumatology.
Licensure:
N/A
Knowledge:
Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology
Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements, including OSHA & HIPAA regulations.
Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
Special Skills:
Skill in establishing priorities and coordinate work activities.
Attention to detail
Abilities:
Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally.
Ability to function in a leadership role influencing medical and administrative staff.

Physical Demands:
Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
