About this role
The Managing Director is a senior client and business development leader responsible for managing and growing relationships with Matter Family Office clients. This individual serves as a trusted advisor to client families, leads the coordination of Matter's resources on their behalf, and develops new relationships that contribute to the growth of the firm . Working closely with the leadership team and Matter's broader team of specialists, the Managing Director helps ensure clients receive a highly coordinated experience across investment management, wealth planning, and family culture and learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary relationship leader and trusted advisor for a portfolio of high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth client families.
- Develop a deep understanding of clients' goals, priorities, family dynamics, and evolving needs.
- Lead client relationships and coordinate the appropriate Matter resources and expertise to address client needs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across multiple generations of client families and with their external advisors.
- Identify opportunities to deepen existing relationships and introduce clients to additional Matter capabilities.
- Develop new business through personal networks, centers of influence, professional advisors, and other referral sources.
- Lead or actively participate in prospective client meetings, presentations, and relationship development activities.
- Partner with the Chief Strategy Officer and other senior leaders on strategic prospects and growth opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with investment advisory, family learning & communication, and client service professionals to deliver an integrated client experience.
- Contribute to the development of the regional team and help foster a collaborative, high-performing culture.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for client matters and help ensure thoughtful, timely resolution.
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in wealth management, family office, private banking, investment management, or a related financial services environment.
- Significant experience advising high-net-worth and/or ultra-high-net-worth families.
- Demonstrated success managing complex, long-term client relationships.
- Proven business development, networking, and relationship origination experience.
- Strong understanding of wealth management and the interconnected needs of affluent families.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, judgment, and presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across investment, planning, and other specialized teams.
- Demonstrated discretion and comfort working with highly confidential client and family matters.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or relevant professional credentials preferred.
