About this role
Position Summary:
The CT Technologist performs high-quality computed tomography imaging procedures in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols, and applicable regulatory standards. This role requires strong technical proficiency, sound independent clinical judgment, and the ability to safely and accurately operate advanced imaging equipment. Working closely with radiologists, providers, and the broader imaging team, the technologist ensures each study is optimized for diagnostic value while prioritizing patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality. In addition to core CT responsibilities, this position may support other imaging areas as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a broad understanding of radiologic services within a fast-paced, collaborative clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform CT procedures using established protocols, adjusting imaging techniques to meet patient and diagnostic needs while ensuring optimal image quality.
- Initiate and manage IV access for contrast studies, monitor patient responses, and follow appropriate safety protocols for adverse reactions.
- Operate and troubleshoot CT scanners and related monitoring equipment, escalating technical issues appropriately and assisting with protocol optimization.
- Maintain accurate documentation, patient information, and charge capture in accordance with hospital information system requirements.
- Uphold radiation safety, infection control, and compliance standards while providing safe, high quality patient care.
- Collaborate with radiology staff and assist other imaging areas during periods of high volume or urgent cases.
Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- ARRT registered or registry eligible NDMIRTBE licensed (Temporary, Active/Current, or Conditional)
Educational Requirements:
- None
Experience Requirements:
- Specialized training in CT on the equipment presently used in the CT scanning area
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to start IV’s (Venipuncture) for contrast administration
- Proper charging of procedures by hospital information system
- Ability to adapt and learn new protocols on new equipment as purchased
- Understands CT Physics and is able to manipulate protocols as to produce optimum imaging studies for all patient types
- Able to operate physiological monitoring equipment
Special Skills or Training Requirements:
- Specialized training in CT on the equipment presently used in the CT scanning area
- Advanced registry in CT preferred Must be able to work effectively under stress and in emergency situations
- This person will need to “troubleshoot” equipment occasionally
- Ability to correct, develop, and pursue new protocols and procedures as technology and equipment changes or advances
- An acute understanding of triaging emergent situations is a must
Physical Requirements:
This role involves frequent standing, walking, bending, and assisting patients onto imaging tables. The technologist must be able to lift or position up to 50 pounds, manipulate imaging equipment, and maintain manual dexterity for IV access and equipment operation. Sustained focus and rapid response may be required in emergent or trauma situations.
Environmental Requirements:
Work occurs in imaging and radiology environments with exposure to radiation, contrast agents, bodily fluids, and infectious materials. Appropriate protective equipment is required. The role may involve dim lighting, equipment noise, and high stress situations such as trauma or critically ill patients. The technologist must function effectively amid frequent interruptions and varying clinical demands.
