Job Summary
The Cafeteria Worker performs a variety of food service duties to support the safe preparation, assembly, distribution, and service of meals for hospital patients, visitors, and staff. This role helps maintain a clean, sanitary, and customer-focused environment while ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

- Provide excellent customer service by anticipating and responding to customer needs and resolving concerns promptly and professionally.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, and food service stations.
- Adhere to all HACCP and food safety standards, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in department meetings, in-services, and required training programs.
- Report product shortages, operational concerns, equipment issues, and discrepancies to supervisors.
- Support departmental goals and initiatives aimed at improving operations, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Work in a variety of food service areas including the cafeteria, tray line, kitchen, and patient meal service operations.
- Set up, stock, and replenish food stations for meal service.
- Assemble and deliver patient meal trays and serve food and beverages to retail customers.
- Retrieve meal trays from patient rooms and transport food service supplies as needed.
- Clean and sanitize stations, equipment, floors, and work areas following meal service.
- Operate food service equipment such as dish machines and trash compactors.
- Perform general housekeeping duties including mopping floors and maintaining sanitary conditions throughout the department.
- Assist with food preparation and replenishment for cafeteria and patient meal service operations.
- Complete assigned sanitation and cleaning projects.
- Support the onboarding and training of new employees and assist with cross-training team members.

Qualifications

Education

- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience

- Previous food service, cafeteria, restaurant, hospitality, healthcare, or customer service experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Demonstrates commitment to organizational I C.A.R.E. standards and customer service excellence.
- Ability to read and understand menu items and food production instructions in English.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks.
- Ability to safely push and transport carts, trucks, food trays, and supplies.
- Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety.
- Dependable, team-oriented, and committed to providing quality service to patients, visitors, and staff.
