Job Description Summary
Are you ready to apply your expert knowledge of medical science and its impact on health and mortality in a key role, by developing and evolving Nationwide's medical underwriting guidelines and approaches? If so, we want to know more about you!

As an Associate Medical Director, you'll provide medical risk assessments and advise underwriters on referred cases. We'll also count on you to provide medical training and coaching and make improvements to the medical training curriculum. You may have opportunities to provide direct patient care at select Nationwide events.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

- Provides morbidity risk assessments as needed for insurance riders, including waiver of premium and long term care (LTC). Interprets EKGs, stress tests and provide appropriate risk assessments.
- Provides formal and informal medical training and coaching to underwriters and others. Reviews and improves the medical training curriculum.
- Assists in developing medical underwriting guidelines. Assists in assessing new laboratory tests and other medical technology from mortality prediction and cost/benefit perspective.
- Participates in development of long term new business and underwriting risk assessment strategies.
- Participates in industry organizations and meetings, and provides direct patient care at select Nationwide events.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Associate Vice President, Life Underwriting.

Typical Skills and Experience:

Education: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a medical school program accredited by the Liaison Committee of Medical Education required.

License/Certification/Designation : Licensed to practice medicine in at least one state. Current state medical license must be in good standing. Internal medicine, family medicine or emergency medicine with board certification preferred. Working toward board certification in insurance medicine

Experience: Clinical practice experience of at least five years post-residency. Knowledge, experience and/or interest in the life insurance business.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of medicine. Success in being highly collaborative and able to function well in a team environment. Sophisticated verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Must be passionate about working with, and training technical and non-technical associates at all levels. Ability to analyze complex medical problems/situations with regard to mortality. Ability to reach and explain medical material to key populations. Ability to treat complex medical conditions should they arise. Ability to maintain a license through continuing medical education requirements.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experience may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Actual compensation may be prorated based on the number of hours worked relative to a full-time schedule.

The national salary range for Associate Medical Director : $149,000.00-$279,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Associate Medical Director : $149,000.00 - $249,000.00
