The IB team advises founders, entrepreneurs, financial sponsors and investors across software, technology and tech services on M&A, debt and equity capital transactions, recapitalizations, and where applicable, restructurings, §363 sales, acquisition and Debtor-in-Possession (DIP) financings and liability management. The Vice President, Tech IB // M&A role offers an ideal opportunity for candidates with technology sector expertise to leverage the firm’s rapidly expanding platform to support the execution and delivery of all workflows necessary to consummate transactions for our middle-market clients. As a Vice President, Technology Investment Banking // M&A at Portage Point, you will work on a variety of transactions across software, technology and tech services that provide exposure to various investment banking services, including mergers and acquisitions, growth equity, private placements of debt and equity securities and other financial advisory services. The role represents a unique opportunity for a highly capable professional with a strong tech sector foundation to make substantial contributions to overall firm growth in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Portage Point Technology IB team (Associates to Managing Directors) to execute all deliverables necessary to consummate transactions for our middle-market technology clients primarily on domestic and cross-border M&A transactions
- Play an integral role on Technology IB deal teams, provide execution support primarily for sell-side mergers and acquisitions, as well as occasional buy-side mandates, growth equity, private placements and other financial advisory services for clients
- Lead the preparation of company valuations, financial models, company marketing documents and client presentations in addition to performing research and various analyses in support of new business generation
- Create and present internal and external client deliverables
- Support the creation of client marketing materials (Teasers, Confidential Information Presentations, Management Presentations, etc.) to be distributed to prospective investors
- Aid with the management of, and compliance with, all administrative standard operating procedures associated with a transaction
- Provide professional development coaching to junior team members
- Share and manage best practices as well as lead internal trainings where required
- Support business development efforts within the tech ecosystem, including origination and relationship-building with founders, financial sponsors and strategic acquirors, while maintaining strong relationships with existing clients
- Maintain current knowledge of tech sector trends, financing activity and public and private market valuation benchmarks across various subsectors in software, tech and tech services
- Support talent acquisition and firm development efforts

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a top undergraduate program
- Located or willing to self-relocate to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York or Philadelphia
- Willing to go into the local Portage Point office four days a week
- Willing to work at client sites as needed
- Seven plus years of experience working for a top-tier investment bank at the Associate or Vice President level is preferred, with direct experience advising technology, software or tech services companies strongly preferred
- Genuine interest in and knowledge of the tech sector including emerging trends across software, tech services and AI
- Strong financial modeling skills and an excellent grasp of corporate finance and valuation methodologies including DCF, LBO, merger modeling, trading and transaction comparables, with fluency in tech-specific valuation frameworks (e.g. revenue and ARR based valuation, SaaS unit economics, retention metrics)
- Series 79 and 63 licensing preferred or the ability to obtain within 120 days of employment
- Ability to successfully work in a small, collaborative team environment
- High degree of maturity with a proven ability to interact with senior executives, tech founders, private equity and growth equity firms, lenders, lawyers, middle managers and line workers
- Effectively communicates analysis through Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint including high-quality messaging, structure and formatting
- Eagerness to be responsive at all times
- Proven track-record of success in high pressure, time-constrained environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong e-mail etiquette
- Top-tier organizational skills and attention to detail

The City of New York and the State of California require Portage Point to provide compensation for this role. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum cash compensation for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant’s qualifications (education, training and / or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
