The opportunity
Altruist is looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead the Portfolio Reporting Experience team. This is a high-visibility role focused on helping advisors and their clients understand portfolio performance, investment outcomes, and the data behind them.
You will own the product strategy and roadmap for reporting experiences that turn complex financial and market data into clear, trusted, actionable insights. You will work across Product, Engineering, Design, Customer Success, Market Data, Compliance, and Product Marketing to improve the quality of the experience and expand the value Altruist delivers to advisors.
This role is a strong fit for a product leader who combines customer empathy, quantitative thinking, financial fluency, and technical depth. You should be comfortable working through ambiguity, learning complex investment concepts, and making thoughtful tradeoffs in a regulated financial environment.
What you'll do
- Own the strategic direction and long-term roadmap for Altruist’s portfolio reporting experience.
- Develop a deep understanding of advisors, end clients, and the investment-management workflows they use to evaluate performance and communicate with clients.
- Build a quantitative understanding of product efficacy, customer needs, reporting gaps, and demand for new capabilities.
- Lead product discovery through user interviews, market research, competitive analysis, and product analytics.
- Translate complex financial concepts, calculations, and data workflows into simple, accurate, and useful product experiences.
- Partner with Engineering and Design to define, scope, and ship high-impact products that test clear hypotheses and improve the customer experience.
- Maintain a focused product backlog and help the team maximize the speed, quality, and impact of its work.
- Evaluate reporting requirements, data dependencies, and vendor capabilities, including market-data partnerships and integrations.
- Work with Customer Success, Market Data, Compliance, and other partners to investigate issues, manage risk, and drive durable solutions.
- Collaborate with Product Marketing and PMs across the Investment Product Group to support adoption of reporting and investment products.
- Monitor product health and customer outcomes, using evidence to prioritize roadmap investments and address systemic issues.
- Use AI-enabled workflows and rapid prototyping where they improve product discovery, communication, or delivery quality
What you bring
- 5+ years of product management experience, preferably in financial technology, investment management, or another data-intensive product environment.
- Strong financial acumen and a genuine interest in investment concepts, portfolio analysis, performance measurement, and reporting standards such as GIPS.
- Experience working with financial, market, or portfolio data and communicating quantitative concepts clearly to different audiences.
- A demonstrated understanding of modern product discovery and product delivery practices.
- Familiarity with market-data providers such as Morningstar is a plus.
- Experience working within a regulated industry, with an appreciation for accuracy, auditability, controls, and operational risk.
- Deep technical literacy and the ability to engage engineers as peers, challenge assumptions, and understand system tradeoffs.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make complex ideas clear and actionable.
- A track record of effective product development work with measurable results.
Location
This role is hybrid and based in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Dallas, supporting close collaboration with Altruist’s product, engineering, and operations teams.
- The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Bachelor's degree or master’s degree with a focus on STEM or quantitative areas of study. CFA is a plus.
San Francisco, CA salary range $170,000 — $240,000 USD

Total compensation includes a competitive benefits package, along with a bonus program for eligible roles.
