Job Description:

We are GDIT. The people supporting and securing some of the most complex government, defense, and intelligence projects across the country. We ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. Our work has meaning and impact on the world around us, but also on us, and that’s important.

GDIT is your place. You make it your own by embracing autonomy, seizing opportunity, and being rusted to deliver your best every day.

We think. We act. We deliver. There is no challenge we can’t turn into opportunity. And our work depends on Senior Data Scientist joining our team to support customer activities.

The Senior Data Scientist performs the full range of Data Scientist responsibilities with greater independence, depth, and breadth, and serves as a technical lead for analyses of enterprise significance. The Senior Data Scientist leads complex analytical projects, reviews the methods and results of Data Scientists, instructs others in data science practices and tools, and represents the data science team in technical discussions with Government leadership, researchers, and clinicians. The Senior Data Scientist and the Data Scientist share the same core responsibilities; the Senior Data Scientist is distinguished by additional experience or training and by the leadership responsibilities below.

HOW A SENIOR DATA SCIENTIST WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

- Perform all responsibilities of the Data Scientist labor category.

- Lead analytical projects of enterprise scope, including analyses that support Government-directed evaluations of program efficacy, Return on Investment (ROI), and preventative risk factors; select methods, define validation approaches, and ensure results are defensible and reproducible.

- Review the analytical design, code, and results of Data Scientists for methodological soundness before delivery to the Government.

- Instruct and mentor Data Scientists and other contract personnel in data science practices, tools, and the Government-furnished technology stack.

- Develop and maintain analytical standards, business rules, model assumptions, validation procedures, and reproducible methodologies for the data science team, in coordination with the Data Science Advisor.

- Design, develop, and automate enterprise dashboards, executive scorecards, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Measures of Performance (MOPs), and Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) as requested by the Government.

- Advise Government personnel on the appropriate use, limitations, and interpretation of analytical products and models.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

EDUCATION:

- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline, including but not limited to statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, applied mathematics, data science, operations research, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or econometrics, epidemiology, geospatial science or geoinformatics, or psychology or another behavioral science with a quantitative-methods concentration, with documented coursework or professional application in statistics, programming, and quantitative analysis.

- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience applying data science or statistical methods to real-world problems; or a Master’s degree in one of the disciplines listed above and a minimum of three (3) years of such experience. Degree-program work does not count toward the Senior Data Scientist experience requirement.
- Meet all qualifications of the Data Scientist labor category, with proficiency demonstrated through professional work experience rather than degree-program projects alone.

- Advanced proficiency in Python or R, with disciplined software practices (modular code, testing, version control), and in SQL.

- Demonstrated experience developing, validating, and delivering statistical or predictive models that informed organizational decisions.

- Demonstrated experience leading analytical projects and reviewing or mentoring the work of other analysts.

- Demonstrated knowledge of experimental or quasi-experimental design, causal inference, or program-evaluation methods used to evaluate intervention effectiveness.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

- Master’s degree in one of the disciplines listed above.
- Experience with Databricks and Apache Spark (PySpark) or a comparable distributed processing system, and with NLP and LLM use cases.

- Familiarity with the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps and Power Automate) and with Palantir Foundry.

- Experience with human performance, sports science, health, clinical, or biomedical data.

- A history of peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations.

LOCATION: Various CONUS SITES

CLEARANCE: Secret or Top-Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain clearance.

This is a contingent posting, expected to start in 2027.

- 401K with company match
- Comprehensive health and wellness packages
- Internal mobility team dedicated to helping you own your career
