Lerch Bates is seeking an Associate Building Enclosure Consultant to join our Building Science team. This role is designed for professionals who want to build a long-term career in building enclosure consulting while gaining hands-on experience with some of the most challenging and technically sophisticated projects in the industry.

As an Associate Building Enclosure Consultant , you will work alongside experienced Consultants, Senior Consultants, and Practice Leaders on projects involving new construction, major renovations, and high-performance building enclosures. You'll contribute to building enclosure consulting and commissioning (BECx) services that help owners, architects, and contractors improve building performance, reduce risk, and deliver durable, resilient buildings.

This position provides a clear pathway toward becoming an independent Consultant through exposure to design review, construction quality assurance, field testing, commissioning, project management, and client engagement. It is ideal for professionals who enjoy solving technical problems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and developing expertise in building science and building enclosure systems.

What Youll Do:

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed in this position. They are not intended to prescribe or restrict the assignments that management may make.

Building Enclosure Consulting & Technical Development

- Support building enclosure consulting and building enclosure commissioning (BECx) projects for new construction and major renovation projects.

- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and enclosure details with a focus on air, water, thermal, and vapor control systems.

- Evaluate building enclosure assemblies including curtain walls, storefront systems, glazing systems, roofing assemblies, waterproofing systems, and exterior wall systems.

- Participate in design reviews and collaborate with project teams to identify opportunities to improve enclosure performance, durability, and constructability.

- Develop technical expertise through mentorship, hands-on project experience, and collaboration with industry-leading building enclosure professionals.

Field Services & Construction Quality Assurance

- Participate in design, pre-construction, and construction-phase meetings.

- Conduct quality assurance site observations and serve as a representative of Lerch Bates during project site visits.

- Perform or assist with building enclosure field testing, including ASTM E783, ASTM E1105, AAMA 501.2, ASTM E779, and other industry-standard testing procedures.

- Evaluate installation quality and identify potential building enclosure performance risks.

- Develop an understanding of enclosure construction sequencing and how design and installation decisions impact long-term building performance.

Project Management & Client Support

- Support the management of active projects to maintain quality, responsiveness, schedules, budgets, and client satisfaction.

- Assist with project tracking, documentation, scheduling, reporting, and coordination activities.

- Participate in project reviews and internal planning meetings.

- Communicate observations, project updates, and recommendations to clients and project teams.

- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.

Professional Growth & Leadership Development

- Learn consulting best practices while developing project management and client-facing skills.

- Participate in technical training, continuing education, and professional development opportunities.

- Contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on technical excellence and continuous improvement.

- Progress toward increased project responsibility and eventual development into a fully independent Consultant role.

What Youll Bring:

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Building Science, or a related discipline.

- 3-5 years of experience within architecture, engineering, construction, building science, or a related industry.

- Working knowledge of building enclosure systems including roofing, waterproofing, exterior cladding, glazing systems, curtain walls, sealants, weather barriers, and air/water barriers.

- Understanding of building construction practices, construction sequencing, and enclosure installation methods.

- Experience with construction administration, quality assurance observations, field investigations, testing, or design review preferred.

- Strong technical writing, communication, and analytical skills.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project demands in a fast-paced consulting environment.

- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.

- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative multidisciplinary team.

- Strong client communication and relationship-building capabilities.

- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.

- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, WUFI, THERM, Rhino, or similar design and analysis tools preferred.

- Interest in pursuing professional licensure (PE or RA) and continued growth within the building enclosure consulting profession.

Working Environment:

This position is performed in a combination of office, remote, client, and field environments. Regular travel to project sites is required and may include commercial buildings, occupied facilities, active construction sites, industrial locations, rooftops, and other environments where building evaluations, testing, or construction observations are performed. Work may occur indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and ladders, and navigate active construction sites and existing buildings. Employees may be required to access rooftops, traverse uneven terrain, work at elevated heights, and enter confined or restricted spaces as project conditions require. Frequent use of computers, keyboards, measuring equipment, and handheld devices is required.

Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of equipment and materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required. Employees must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, safety footwear, hearing protection, and fall protection when applicable.

Travel by automobile and occasional air travel may be required.

Mental Demands:

This position requires strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills. Employees must be able to interpret construction documents, building codes, technical specifications, engineering data, and field observations while exercising sound professional judgment.

The role requires managing multiple projects, balancing competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and adapting to changing project conditions. Effective written and verbal communication, technical report writing, client presentations, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and attention to detail are essential.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test.
