Job Title: Technical Writer Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining a variety of technical documentation to ensure compliance with customer requirements and standards.
Responsibilities
- Create, update, and maintain technical documentation, including technical manuals, quick reference guides, engineering specifications, release notes, and training material.
- Review and verify compliance with customer requirements and standards.
- Work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, analysts, and project leads to gather information and clarify technical details.
- Convert technical information into well-structured, easy-to-understand documentation aligned with organizational standards.
- Address review comments and incorporate feedback from internal reviews and customer events.
- Conduct quality reviews of documentation for clarity, accuracy, grammar, logic, and compliance with style guidelines.
- Manage assigned tasks and deliverables to meet deadlines.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience (5+ years) as a Technical Writer or similar documentation role.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
- Strong understanding of technical concepts and engineering workflows.
- Demonstrated proficiencies in applying technical-writing best practices.
- Able to collaborate and work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Proficiency with documentation tools such as Confluence, Jira, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Proficiency with using Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Visio.
- Demonstrated knowledge of COTS Technical Writing standards.
- Familiarity with defense-related technical writing standards.
- Ability to comply with all company guidelines, policies, procedures, and embrace core values.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with PTC Windchill (PLM).
- Experience writing technical documentation in XML coding using Arbortext Editor.
- Experience with creating graphics from CAD models using Creo Illustrate.
- Experience with IADS4 compliance development of technical publications.
- Ability to write for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Work Environment
This position is within a Heavy Engineering Design and Manufacturing Environment. The organization designs and manufactures all its products in-house. The role is part of the Integrated Logistics Team, which includes three Technical Writers, working on state-of-the-art equipment for military applications.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of CLARKSBURG, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $70.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
