The Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for a multi-state workforce. This role performs payroll audits, reviews timekeeping records, reconciles payroll data, administers garnishments, and assists with payroll tax and year-end activities. The Payroll Specialist partners closely with Human Resources, Finance, managers, and employees to ensure payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.

Job Description:

- Process payroll transactions accurately and timely for all employees.
- Review employee time sheets and audit timekeeping records to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Generate, review, and analyze payroll-related reports in Workday.
- Audit payroll transactions and payroll processes to identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
- Support the processing and validation of weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles.
- Partner with Human Resources on payroll-related activities, including leave administration, benefits processing, and time-tracking audits.
- Manage wage attachments and garnishments, including child support orders, tax levies, agency correspondence, system setup, payment processing, and employee communications.
- Monitor and respond to payroll inbox inquiries, providing timely and professional support to employees and managers.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation, reconciliations, audits, and regulatory reporting.
- Reconcile payroll taxes and assist with payroll tax filings and related audits.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and company policies.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, managers, and business partners.
- Assist with State Agency tax notices
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of payroll processing experience; multi-state payroll experience preferred.
- Experience with payroll systems and reporting tools; Workday experience preferred.
- Experience reviewing timekeeping records, payroll audits, and payroll reconciliation processes.
- Knowledge of weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing practices.
- Working knowledge of garnishments, child support orders, federal and state levies, and wage attachments.
- Knowledge of payroll tax regulations, filings, and reconciliation processes.
- Basic knowledge of union agreements and payroll administration.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

The expected pay range for this role is $50,000 - $70,000. Pay is based on several factors including, but not limited to, labor markets, education, candidate experience, certifications, etc .
