Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is looking for a self-motivated, hardworking individual to fill 2 part-time OPS Health Educator at 20 hours a week. (nights and weekend as needed.)

Valid Florida Driver License is required for this position

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent in this position facilitates positive youth development workshops and community leadership service experiences for adolescents using the REAL Essentials curriculum lessons for the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County, as outlined by the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) grant. Duties will be performed in after-school, alternative school, community and school settings, and at the school health program office. This is a part-time position. In the event of an emergency, this office may be required to perform emergency operation functions.

Facilitates positive youth development (PYD) workshops at participating in after-school programs, community settings, alternative school sites and schools in accordance with SRAE grant guidelines. Facilitates required lessons from the REAL Essentials curriculum and guides youth through corresponding leadership service projects, to ensure successful completion of projects by students. Maintains lesson plans and necessary workshop and project supplies and materials to facilitate REAL Essentials lessons and leadership activities. Maintains effective communication with school and partner site coordinators to develop workshop meeting schedule, update them on progress, share requirements information and coordinate youth activities for the duration of the grant period. Communicate with Program Manager or designee regularly to discuss project progress, updates and schedule. Orient’s school personnel and other staff as needed in the PYD approach. Participate in outreach and community education events to share REAL Youth project updates and information. Works with School Health Program Staff Assistant and Program Manager to order needed supplies. Serve as back-up facilitator when needed.

Accurately completes required reporting such as facilitator logs, club progress reports, attendance records, student pre and post surveys, lesson and leadership hours tracking logs, monthly reports as required by program guidelines in a timely manner. Ensures accurate and timely submission of EARS, timesheets and other internal DOH reports as needed. Attends programmatic meetings, training and conference calls as required by the grant project, school health program. Participate in additional training opportunities as needed. Regularly consults and communicates with supervisors for updates, reporting, programmatic monitoring and facilitator best practices. Attend community meetings as needed to meet SRAE project goals.

Maintains active communication with supervisors, other facilitators and school health teams to expedite work, address challenges and achieve program goals. Works with supervisors to identify potential partner sites. Conducts possible youth site assessments. Co-facilitate occasional REAL Youth workshops for significant adults.

Performs other related duties as required, travel to partner sites in Seminole County and Orange County, maintains required records, participates in staff development, program meetings, departmental events and trainings.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: adolescent prevention program education. Skill in: basic Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Forms, Teams, Publisher and Excel. Ability to: conduct presentations to diverse audiences; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; work independently.

Qualifications:

Minimum –

Verifiable one year experience in public speaking, doing presentations for youth and/or diverse audiences

Verifiable one year of experience working with youth aged 10-19

All newly hired employees of the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County, who have not had a previous positive TB test, are required to have an initial TB test upon hire and annual testing thereafter.
