This role sits within Client Services, a vertical of Digital Engineering Services (DES), the organisation’s core infrastructure function.
DES is responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure capabilities across the enterprise, including Storage, Network, Platform, SOC, and Service Management. Within this, Client Services team focuses on end-user-facing technologies, covering Desktop Services, Application Delivery and Messaging & Collaboration.
Within DES, The Client Services team is responsible for the delivering and continually evolving the organisation’s Digital Workplace. The team manages end-user computing, endpoint management, application delivery, messaging, collaboration and workplace security technologies, ensuring employees have a seamless, secure and productive access to the tools they need to work effectively.
As a Senior Digital Workplace Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the organisation’s cloud-first, laptop-first strategy, delivering enterprise Digital Workplace solutions across technologies including Microsoft Intune, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Windows 11, Conditional Access and cloud desktop platforms. Working closely with Infrastructure, Security and Architecture teams, you will help drive Digital Workplace transformation, improve user experience and support secure, scalable services for thousands of users across multiple EMEA locations.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Digital Workplace Engineer will play a key role in the operational delivery and ongoing evolution of the organisation’s Digital Workplace services. The role will support a modern, cloud-first, laptop first strategy, delivering secure, scalable and user-centric workplace solutions across the enterprise.
Working as a member of the Digital Workplace team, you will provide technical leadership across endpoint management, identity, collaboration and security technologies. You will be responsible for the design, implementation and support of Digital Workplace solutions, whilst contributing to strategic transformation programmes and maintaining high levels of operational service.
This role requires an exception Digital Workplace specialist with strong expertise across Microsoft Intune, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Windows 11, Conditional Access and Zero Trust Technologies. You will work closely with Infrastructure, Security, Architecture and Project teams to deliver innovative workplace solutions that enhance both user experience and organisational security.
Alongside project delivery, you will provide third-line technical support and drive continual service improvement across the Digital Workplace estate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Digital Workplace Engineering
- Design, build and maintain enterprise Digital Workplace solutions supporting a cloud-first, laptop-first strategy.
- Engineer and support Microsoft Intune for endpoint management across Windows devices.
- Design and implement Windows Autopilot deployment solutions.
- Manage endpoint configuration profiles, compliance policies and security baselines.
- Support Microsoft Entra ID identity and device management services.
- Administer Microsoft 365 services relating to the Digital Workplace.
- Engineer secure endpoint configurations aligned with Microsoft best practices.
Endpoint & Cloud Technologies
- Support Windows 11 Enterprise endpoint engineering.
- Assist with Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments where required.
- Support endpoint lifecycle management including provisioning, configuration and retirement.
- Maintain endpoint security posture through compliance monitoring and remediation.
- Support application deployment using Microsoft Intune and modern application management technologies.
Security & Identity
- Design and maintain Conditional Access policies.
- Implement Zero Trust principles across endpoint and identity services.
- Support Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) solutions.
- Work closely with Cyber Security teams to improve endpoint security.
- Support Microsoft Defender technologies and endpoint protection solutions.
- Ensure compliance with organisational security standards and governance.
Project Delivery
- Provide technical leadership across Digital Workplace transformation programmes.
- Produce High Level Designs (HLDs), Low Level Designs (LLDs) and technical implementation documentation.
- Deliver technical workstreams within infrastructure and workplace projects.
- Participate in planning, implementation and handover activities.
- Support technology evaluations, proof of concepts and pilot deployments.
- Contribute to Digital Workplace strategy and roadmap development.
Operational Support
- Provide 3rd Line support for Digital Workplace technologies.
- Manage complex technical incidents through to resolution.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
- Support Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
- Ensure services meet agreed SLAs and operational standards.
- Participate in major incident support where required.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for automation and service optimisation.
- Develop PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks.
- Drive continual service improvement initiatives.
- Review existing solutions and recommend modernisation opportunities.
- Improve end-user experience through technology enhancements.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and technology vendors.
- Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior engineers.
- Share technical knowledge across the wider infrastructure team.
- Work collaboratively with Architecture, Security and Project Management teams.
- Support technical governance and engineering standards.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Experience in a Senior Digital Workplace, Modern Workplace, End User Computing (EUC) or Endpoint Engineering role within a large enterprise environment.
- Experience designing, implementing and supporting Microsoft Intune and Microsoft 365 solutions across enterprise-scale environments.
- Proven experience managing Windows 11 endpoints using Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Experience designing and implementing Conditional Access policies and modern identity and access management solutions.
- Experience delivering Digital Workplace transformation programmes, including migration from legacy endpoint management solutions to cloud-first technologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise endpoint security, device compliance and Zero Trust initiatives.
- Experience delivering infrastructure and Digital Workplace projects from technical design through implementation and operational handover.
- Experience producing High Level Designs (HLDs), Low Level Designs (LLDs), implementation plans and operational documentation.
- Experience providing 3rd Line technical support for complex endpoint, identity and Modern Workplace issues.
- Proven experience performing root cause analysis, troubleshooting and problem management within enterprise environments.
- Experience working closely with Architecture, Cyber Security, Infrastructure and Project teams to deliver business-critical technology initiatives.
- Strong experience with ITIL-based Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and acting as a technical subject matter expert.
- Experience working within highly regulated enterprise environments with a strong focus on security, governance and compliance.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate effectively across both technical and non-technical audiences.
