The Senior Legal Counsel provides expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risks faced by the area of coverage are identified, reported and mitigated. This role will typically report to an Associate General Counsel, Managing Associated General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel.

In this role you will:

- Lead the Singapore Insurance Legal team and serve as principal legal adviser to HSBC Life (Singapore).

- Identify, assess, escalate and manage material legal, conduct and reputational risks in line with HSBC’s Legal Risk Management Framework.

- Develop and manage the team by setting priorities, allocating resources, building capability and fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture.

- Advise senior management on business strategy, transactions, products, transformation initiatives and matters of strategic or reputational significance.

- Provide clear, timely and commercially pragmatic advice, acting as a trusted adviser and constructive challenger to support sustainable decisions.

- Monitor legal, regulatory and market developments, advising on impacts and supporting implementation of required changes, including regulatory and industry engagements.

- Structure, draft and negotiate material commercial arrangements and legal documentation, communicating complex issues clearly and escalating significant matters promptly.

- Collaborate with regional, global and control functions, while managing external counsel and legal spend to deliver consistent, high-quality and cost-effective support.

To be successful you will need:

- Qualified lawyer in Singapore or another relevant common-law jurisdiction, with substantial post-qualification experience.

- Extensive experience advising on insurance law and regulation in a leading law firm or financial institution.

- Strong knowledge of Singapore’s insurance legal and regulatory framework; Asia cross-border experience is advantageous.

- Experienced in commercial transactions and documentation, including data privacy, consumer protection, competition law, confidentiality and disputes.

- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and provide clear, pragmatic, risk-based advice on complex and strategically significant matters.

- Proven people leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills, with a collaborative approach and commitment to innovation, legal technology and AI-enabled ways of working.
