Job Description
The Senior Manager, Visual Inspection Biologics, is responsible for overseeing the coding, visual inspection and vacuum processes within the AbbVie Westport manufacturing facility. The role will transition to full ownership of the area through a structured handover, initially shadowing the current Associate Director to build detailed knowledge of operations, people, systems, compliance requirements and key stakeholder interfaces. The Senior Manager will provide day-to-day leadership while shaping the future inspection strategy and supporting long-range production scheduling (LRPS), ensuring that inspection capability, capacity, technology and resources remain aligned with the site’s future portfolio and business needs.
Responsibilities :
• Complete a structured handover of the area, shadowing the current Associate Director and progressively assuming full accountability for operations, people, performance, compliance and stakeholder management.
• Develop and lead the future-state strategy for visual inspection, assessing opportunities in automation, advanced imaging, digital tools and data-driven inspection while maintaining a compliant, risk-based approach.
• Own the visual inspection input to LRPS, translating the long-range production plan into capacity, resource, technology, training and investment requirements and identifying future constraints and risks.
• Develop and implement visual inspection processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality for both commercial and NPI products.
• Manage the visual inspection team, including hiring and evaluating employees.
• Meet with other departments to coordinate visual inspection schedules and ensure timely delivery of products.
• Ensure that visual inspection process meets quality standards and regulations.
• Develop, maintain and review visual inspection limits
• Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies.
Qualifications
• Level 8/ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an engineering or Science related field or equivalent relevant experience.
• 5+ years of experience in management in a GMP function ideally in a visual inspection role
• Strong knowledge of visual inspection materials and processes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for packaging.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement processes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
