About this role
The senior Greater China Desk banker will play a key leadership role within the Intra-Asia Subsidiary Banking franchise, with primary responsibility for driving the growth of our Greater China corporate client business across Asia Pacific region.
The role will focus on deepening relationships with leading Greater China corporates as they expand their business, investments and financial activities across ASEAN and the broader Asia Pacific region. The successful candidate will combine strong senior-client connectivity in Greater China with a deep understanding of cross-border corporate banking, capital allocation, risk management and broader institutional banking product suite.
As a senior member of the Intra-Asia team, the individual will also help shape the strategic direction of the franchise, develop the Greater China coverage team and serve as a senior bench leader capable of taking the Intra-Asia Greater China business to the next level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Greater China Intra-Asia growth strategy: Drive sustainable revenue growth and returns from the Greater China portfolio. Maintain disciplined prioritization of capital and resources, with a strong focus on relationship returns, wallet capture and cross-product penetration.
- Own and drive the strategy for Greater China-headquartered corporates operating and investing across Asia, with particularly focus on ASEAN and other priority platforms such as RTC, RHQ, IHQ in Hong Kong and Singapore corridors.
- Identify structural growth themes and emerging client opportunities arising from Chinese corporates’ regional and global expansion, including manufacturing relocation, supply-chain diversification, energy transition, digital infrastructure, technology, innovation economy and AI infrastructure sectors.
- Translate these themes into actionable client strategies, prioritized prospect pipelines and measurable revenue opportunities.
- Partner with Greater China and regional leadership to continuously refine the target client universe and resource allocation across the franchise.
- Drive senior client coverage and origination: Develop trusted relationships with CFOs, Treasurers and other senior decision-makers at leading Greater China corporates.
- Lead strategic dialogue with clients around their cross-border banking and financing needs, including payments/cash management, liquidity, trade finance, market FX and rates, lending, capital markets and other strategic financing solutions.
- Originate complex, multi-product and multi-country opportunities by connecting clients with the bank’s capabilities across markets and products.
- Act as a senior escalation and relationship point for strategically important Greater China-headquartered clients across Asia Pacific region. Facilitate senior connectivity between Greater China corporate decision-makers and the bank’s regional and global leadership.
- Build effective coverage models that combine strong headquarters relationships with high-quality subsidiary coverage in destination markets. Coordinate client strategy across countries and products to ensure a consistent, enterprise-wide approach to priority relationships.
- Provide franchise leadership: Serve as a senior member of the Intra-Asia leadership team and contribute to broader strategy and management of the franchise.
- Provide leadership, coaching and sponsorship to Greater China Desks bankers and help develop the next generation of senior coverage talents.
- Raise standards around client planning, origination, execution and senior stakeholder management.
Required Qualifications and Skillsets:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant corporate banking experience, including coverage of China-linked clients and/or Greater China corridors.
- Significant corporate banking or institutional client coverage experience, ideally including substantial Greater China and cross-border responsibilities. Mandarin proficiency (spoken and written), aligned to client coverage needs.
- Strong understanding of transaction banking, markets, credit, trade finance, and the ability to connect these into cohesive client solutions. Proven relationship management and origination capability, including negotiation and long-term client stewardship.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating complex, multi-product and multi-country opportunities with multiple stakeholders and tight execution timelines. Strong analytical skills and commercial judgment, with the ability to align opportunities to risk appetite and controls.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to influence and coordinate across internal stakeholders and client teams. Strong organization skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables while maintaining execution quality and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications and Skillsets:
- Familiarity with multinational subsidiary treasury operating models, including cross-border liquidity structures, cash concentration, and intercompany flows.
- Demonstrated leadership capability with a collaborative, team-oriented approach, effectively partnering across coverage and product stakeholders to drive shared objectives and business outcomes.
- Track record of effective partnership with Risk, Compliance, and Credit stakeholders in a high-control environment, including issue escalation and remediation support.
