Job Description

AECOM’s Energy practice provides a wide range of services from consulting and engineering design to Owners Engineer for power, energy efficiency, and renewable energy clients. Our understanding of the big picture – and the interconnection between generation, distribution, storage, and behind the meter services – allows us to deliver holistic strategies that improve and modernize next generation energy infrastructure. AECOM is seeking a Grid Modernization Sector Lead to support our growing business with a specific focus on grid modernization. The Sector Lead is responsible for growth, directs, conducts, and coordinates the sales, marketing, research, client engagement and planning activities associated with grid modernization business development for AECOM’s Energy Business.

The main focus is to help our clients transition to clean electricity, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to a changing climate. AECOM’s clients include private and public utilities; developers; and other large public and private customers.

Here’s what you’ll do:

- Develop and implement multi-year growth strategy, including development of key performance metrics, client account plans, service offerings, market trend analysis and brand elevation/thought leadership.
- Identify, develop, and propose new projects; negotiate partnerships and alliances; structure and close transactions; manage senior-level relationships internally and externally; and maintain a sharp focus on client satisfaction throughout project/program lifecycle.
- Lead the development of grid modernisation advisory services, working closely with the wider AECOM Advisory business to deliver solutions to our clients.
- Build collaborative solutions for key grid modernisation clients across AECOM business lines and across the Europe & India region.
- Identify the skills and support the recruitment required in the team to support the growth strategy.
- Establish, develop and maintain relationships with regional public utilities, investor-owned utilities, developers, contractors and central government departments.
- Support Energy projects and programs during execution and implementation with domain expertise
- Strong writing skills and ability to communicate complex processes or ideas

Here’s what we’re looking for:

Success in this position requires a dynamic individual with high energy and motivation, an acute passion for developing solutions, a deep and current understanding of regulatory structures and system operators, knowledge of the current pipeline of regional market levers and the ability to collaborate with a strategic interdisciplinary team of operations, technical experts, and business development professionals.

We are seeking an individual with strong interpersonal, organizational, creative problem-solving, collaboration and leadership skills with a proven expertise in business development and market strategy development and execution.

Minimum Requirements:

- BEng/BA/BS in Engineering, Environmental Science/Policy, Design or closely related field
- Proven ability to collaborate with a strategic interdisciplinary team of business development and delivery professionals
- Strong understanding of energy policy, planning and project implementation.
- Strong understanding of Transmission & Distribution Networks
- Significant experience in power, utilities, infrastructure or energy consulting
- Proven track record in winning & delivering major infrastructure programmes

Technical knowledge in:

- Grid modernisation strategies.
- Network planning and connections.
- Renewable integration.
- Energy transition and decarbonisation.
- Regulatory frameworks including RIIO and UK energy market structures.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in engineering, Environmental Science & Policy or MBA
- Demonstrated networking capabilities with public and private clients, power and energy industries, from inception through contract award and implementation
- Extensive and diversified experience and abilities, and knowledge of marketing and planning principles and practices.
- Knowledge of the financial, technical and political aspects driving both the energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, smart energy and utility industries and energy infrastructure development
