The Role
The Delivery Lead within Digital and Technology is accountable for the end-to-end lifecycle of creating and implementing digital products, from initiation through successful delivery and implementation. The role goes beyond project management by leading, motivating, and overseeing multidisciplinary product and project delivery teams, ensuring effective collaboration, high performance, and efficient execution. Working closely with different areas of the British Council, the role helps deliver customer-centric, digitally enabled solutions while fostering an inclusive and digitally confident culture aligned with the organisation’s values.
The Engineering division brings together Engineering, QA, Architecture, and Delivery expertise to ensure the successful development and delivery of global products and services. It works across Reuse, Buy, and Build strategies, establishes communities of practice, defines technology solutions and core capabilities, and provides architecture and delivery leadership for strategic, enterprise-wide solutions. The division also manages technology risks, establishes standards and best practices, and enables flexible adoption of technology to support business objectives and strategic delivery.
Main responsibilities
The role requires strong consultancy, analysis, problem-solving, and functional expertise , with responsibility for building relationships with stakeholders across different countries and resolving issues or delivery blockers collaboratively. The Delivery Lead owns the delivery of assigned digital products, acting as a servant leader or project leader as appropriate, while coaching teams in Agile and Lean methodologies alongside traditional project management approaches where required. They must also translate complex technical information into clear messages for non-technical stakeholders and drive continuous improvement across delivery teams.
The role also focuses heavily on service improvement, stakeholder management, and commercial delivery . The Delivery Lead establishes a strong delivery culture, maintains project plans, risks, issues, and sprint backlogs, and provides regular reporting to stakeholders in partnership with Product Owners and other key leads. They are responsible for building motivated, collaborative, high-performing delivery teams, maintaining delivery momentum, and managing third-party integrators where required, while ensuring projects remain focused on priorities, progress at the required pace, and deliver agreed outcomes.

Role specific skills
- Experience of managing relevant Product delivery.
- Be confident with both project management and Agile delivery.
- Ability to manage large projects.
- Analyses requirements with the sponsor/stakeholders, defining specification, planning, revising, implementing an evaluating small to large, low to high-risk delivery.
- Experience of servant leadership – guide and coaching your team and organisation through the delivery processes.
- Experience of ability to use formal and informal negotiating and motivation techniques to influence others behaviour and persuade them to think and act differently, while respecting differences of view and culture.
- Experience of co-ordinating a diverse team with awareness of equality and diversity impact as part of the delivery specifications and handles changers in specification or plan to meet unexpected circumstances.
Role specific knowledge and experience
Minimum/essential
- Varied knowledge and demonstrable experience of delivery/project management in an Agile environment.
- Ability to liaise with senior management stakeholders, business users, PMO Programme level colleagues manging third party suppliers to deliver suitable solutions.
- Understand the fundamentals of the Agile framework (such as iterative development using incremental delivery).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills using various tools including Word, Excel templates, and PowerPoint presentations
- Experience of using formal planning tools to create project plans where appropriate
Desirable
- Experience of leading, coordinating and organising remote teams in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated the ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes and ability to prioritise.
Experience of both infrastructure and product projects highly desirable including rollout experience would advantageous
Language Requirements
- The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
