About the position:

ING Americas is seeking a senior-level contractor to help complete and operationalize the implementation of U.S. GAAP for a U.S. branch of a foreign banking organization. The role will require hands-on U.S. GAAP experience across policy-to-process translation, desktop procedures, materiality assessments, review of accounting procedures that have been system automated, and establishing strong controls & governance. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of an experienced manager to challenge work completed to date, finalize remaining deliverables and ultimately help ensure end-to-end readiness for business-as-usual operations and branch implementation. The role requires credibility with senior Finance stakeholders and practical experience responding to Federal Reserve expectations in a foreign-branch environment.

About the department:

The role sits within ING Americas Finance and will work across U.S. Accounting Policies, Financial Accounting, Product Control, Regulatory Reporting and departments outside Finance such as Operations, Risk and IT. The team is preparing for Branch go-live some time in 2027 and hence a number of milestones must be met to ensure robust and successful branch readiness.

Responsibilities:

- Support the supervisor in the end-to-end review of the U.S. GAAP implementation completed to date by validating that known requirements and IFRS-to-U.S. GAAP differences have been addressed, identifying gaps or dependencies, and coordinating work across key stakeholders.
- Work to on the future-state BAU operating model for U.S. GAAP, including desktop procedures, process flows, key controls, handoffs, governance, RACI, evidence standards, and approval requirements.
- Evaluate and document whether approved U.S. GAAP requirements have been translated accurately into accounting-system configurations, data flows, account mappings, interfaces, automated and manual journal logic, reconciliations, and reporting outputs, and propose sustainable controls for the supervisor’s approval where automation is incomplete.
- Perform and document materiality assessments and technical implementation analyses, and present conclusions for financial instrument topics such as effective interest rate, accrual status for non-performing loans, modification accounting for loans, and up-front loan fees.
- Prepare clear status reporting to the U.S. Accounting Committee, including concise articulation of open decisions, risks, dependencies, required actions, accountable owners, and closure evidence.

Qualifications and Competencies

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
- At least 7 years of experience.
- Technical U.S. GAAP expertise, with the ability to translate accounting requirements into practical policies, materiality conclusions, desktop procedures, controls, journal logic, and system requirements.
- Experience reviewing accounting-system implementations, including general-ledger design, subledger-to-GL interfaces, chart-of-account mapping, automated and manual entries, reconciliations, data lineage, UAT, and implementation controls.
- Experience with Federal Reserve supervision or regulatory expectations applicable to U.S. branches or agencies of foreign banking organizations is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, professional judgment, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Hourly Rate: $80-100
