## Job Description Summary:
The New Employee Engagement Specialist will collaborate with other key units across the institution to develop and provide a welcoming, highly organized, comprehensive, and supportive onboarding experience for new employees, beginning with New Employee Orientation through the first year of employment. The New Employee Engagement Specialist will provide tools, programming, and support to new employees across the KUMC enterprise. The New Employee Engagement Specialist is also responsible for creating and offering tools, programming, and support to hiring managers to promote best practices related to departmental onboarding activities. They are responsible for delivering an onboarding experience that prioritizes engagement during the first year and employee retention.
## Job Description:

Job Duties

First Year Engagement (50%)

- Provide KUMC campus tours to new employees on a regularly scheduled basis as well as on request.
- Develop, plan, and coordinate new employees and first-year employee experience events, activities, and workshops.
- Ensure effective communication to new employees regarding development. programs, campus and community involvement opportunities, and special events.
- Strategize approaches to create meaningful in-person connections on each campus.
- Evaluate and recommend engagement strategies to ensure effective organizational onboarding for new employees.

Resource Development and Program Effectiveness (30%)

- Build alignment between onboarding activities and organizational retention strategies.
- Develop and provide resources and consultation to managers to facilitate best-practice onboarding activities at the department level.
- Develop appropriate materials, job aids, and/or guides to support new employees joining KUMC and throughout their first year.
- Track and report on programming participation, effectiveness, and employee development metrics.
- Utilize data analytics to identify growth areas where onboarding subject matter expert(s) can partner with HR Business Partners to support units in improving localized onboarding/employee experience.

New Employee Orientation (20%)

- Coordinate with the HR Recruiting team to ensure all pre-hire steps (including enrollment in New Employee Orientation) have been completed by new employees prior to first day.
- Communicate key information to new employees prior to their first day of employment.
- Facilitate and host bi-weekly New Employee Orientation sessions, including coordinating the presenters and agenda.
- Initiate and facilitate continuous improvement, including but not limited to content and presenter selection, appropriate mix of live/video vs. on-demand content, and campus-specific needs.
- Manage tailored communications in the Workday Onboarding Module; identify when changes occur that require updates to maintain accurate timed messages throughout an employee’s first year.

Required Qualifications

Work Experience:

- Three (3) years of professional work experience in human resources or a related field. Relevant education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
- Prior experience with onboarding responsibilities, preferably in complex or high-volume environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.

Work Experience:

- Experience with Workday or similar HRIS system.
- Prior role in higher education or healthcare.
- Experience with event planning.
- Experience working in a cross-functional/matrixed environment.
- Experience with multimedia content creation.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
