The Role:
In this role you will be working with a variety of people from all backgrounds both in our leisure centres and within the local community to engage them in physical activity. Part of this role will be managing referrals to support people with health conditions by designing and prescribing physical activity programmes. This will involve motivational interviewing to overcome barriers and support in goal setting to achieve improved quality of life. This role will also deliver a range of activities to a variety of user groups ensuring all needs are identified, considered, and met to help increase physical activity levels in the community
Your Team
You will be part of the Community Health & Wellbeing Team, reporting into Community Health and Wellbeing Manager
Your Responsibilities
- Engage a variety of people with a focus on inactive groups to encourage and remove barriers to participation in physical activity.
- Offer advice on improving wellbeing through living a healthy lifestyle
- Deliver a variety of physical activity sessions in the community to a wide range of audiences
- Deliver personalised appointments as part of the exercise referral scheme for people with health conditions
- Maintain the safety and wellbeing of customers
- Record accurate data and report on projects progress and KPI’s
- Follow key principles within the Community Health and Wellbeing strategy to improve the health of the local community
- Utilise preventative strategies to improve the health of individuals through education and support
- Support people to overcome personal barriers when it comes to behaviour change
- Follow up and review progress against individual programmes and interventions
Your Experience
- Working with minority groups
- Delivering physical activity sessions
- Managing exercise referrals and delivering positive outcomes
- Coaching and motivational interviewing
- Working with people of all levels of ability, personalities, and backgrounds
- Leading groups of individuals and keeping individuals engaged
Your Qualifications
- Level 2 Gym Instructor (essential)
- Level 3 Exercise Referral Qualification (essential)
- Level 4 qualification in relevant fields. I.e. Cardiac rehabilitation, Cancer rehabilitation, COPD etc.
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) (desirable)
- MECC training (desirable)
- ESCAPE-Pain Training (desirable)
- INWA Nordic Walking Instructor (desirable)
Your Competencies & Skills
- Good knowledge and understanding of mental health and how it can impact people
- Good knowledge of the key principles affecting health and wellbeing
- Self-motivated, driven and able to use own initiative
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with an understanding of how to interact with different personalities abilities and needs
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Good teamworking skills and the ability to lead and motivate individuals
- Business acumen, creative thinking and problem-solving
- Energy and resilience
- Flexibility and multi-tasking skills
- Computer literate with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

This role will be based at Havant but will be expected to travel to other company site as the need requires.
