Positio n Summary

Centurion Planning & Design is seeking a full-time, in-office Construction Materials Laboratory Technician to join our Materials Testing Department.

This position focuses on laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and other construction materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, TxDOT, and applicable project specifications. The position will be responsible for performing laboratory testing, maintaining
accurate test records, assisting with sample preparation, and ensuring testing is completed accurately and on schedule.

We are looking for a dependable and organized individual who is comfortable working with numbers, following detailed testing procedures, and performing physically demanding laboratory work. Strong attention to detail, good math skills, and the ability to consistently follow standardized testing procedures are essential.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, and other construction materials.

- Perform moisture-density relationships (Proctors), gradations, Atterberg limits, moisture contents, and other soil and aggregate testing.

- Prepare, cure, handle, and test concrete specimens, including concrete cylinders.

- Perform compressive strength testing of concrete specimens.

- Follow ASTM, AASHTO, TxDOT, and project-specific testing procedures.

- Perform calculations and accurately document test results.

- Enter laboratory test results into company reporting and data-management systems.

- Review test data for accuracy, completeness, and potential discrepancies.

- Properly identify , organize, store, and dispose of laboratory samples.

- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory workspace.

- Assist with equipment checks, calibrations, verifications, and maintenance.

- Track testing schedules and ensure time-sensitive testing is completed when required .

- Communicate with project managers, field technicians, and other laboratory personnel regarding samples and testing requirements.

- Assist with maintaining laboratory certifications, documentation, and QA/QC requirements.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

- Previous construction materials testing or laboratory experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate.

- Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician, NICET Level I Soils and Concrete certifications, and applicable TxDOT laboratory certifications.

- Good math skills, including fractions, decimals, percentages, weights, volumes, and basic algebra.

- Ability to read, understand, and follow ASTM, AASHTO, TxDOT, and project testing procedures.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate test results.

- Must be dependable, punctual, and consistently arrive to work on time.

- Must be organized and capable of managing multiple samples and tests simultaneously.

- Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team.

- Basic computer and data-entry skills.

- Ability to safely lift and carry 75 pounds or more .

- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive lifting, bending, carrying, and other physical laboratory tasks.

- Willingness and ability to learn new testing procedures and obtain additional certifications as required .

- Valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record required .
