About this role

We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout. Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, general contractors, and design teams, this role will help coordinate project documentation, procurement, scheduling, cost tracking, and day-to-day project execution.

Projects may include healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, industrial, and other complex commercial facilities.

Responsibilities

- Support Project Managers with the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Prepare, track, and manage RFIs, submittals, transmittals, change orders, procurement logs, and other project documentation.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and scopes of work to help identify project requirements and potential issues.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, foremen, field electricians, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
- Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long-lead items, and critical project milestones.
- Assist with project schedules, budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, billing, and financial reporting.
- Participate in project meetings, site visits, coordination meetings, and progress reviews.
- Coordinate with estimating and BIM/VDC teams on constructability, design coordination, material requirements, and installation planning.
- Maintain accurate project records, meeting minutes, correspondence, drawings, logs, and document control.
- Assist with material takeoffs, procurement planning, project logistics, commissioning, punch lists, and closeout activities.
- Help track project progress and identify potential schedule, procurement, cost, documentation, or coordination issues.
- Follow up with project stakeholders to ensure outstanding items are resolved in a timely manner.
- Support compliance with project specifications, contract requirements, company standards, quality expectations, and safety objectives.
- Provide general project support to help keep electrical construction activities organized and moving according to plan.

Requirements

- 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
- Experience with a commercial electrical contractor or specialty electrical subcontractor preferred.
- Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation methods, construction sequencing, and field operations.
- Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and project deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable communicating with field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, general contractors, and internal project teams.
- Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
- Experience with healthcare, higher education, institutional, manufacturing, industrial, or other complex commercial projects is a plus.
