About this role

We are seeking a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong hands-on experience in HVAC and mechanical MEP design to join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting commercial, institutional, healthcare, municipal, veterinary, and other specialized facilities.

This is a hands-on design and engineering role , not a project management position. The successful candidate will lead mechanical system design, perform engineering calculations, develop construction documents, coordinate with other disciplines, and provide technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is comfortable taking ownership of mechanical design from concept through construction and serving as the Engineer of Record for projects within their area of licensure.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the design and development of HVAC and mechanical MEP systems for commercial and institutional facilities.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation calculations, energy analysis, equipment sizing, and equipment selection.
- Develop mechanical plans, specifications, equipment schedules, details, calculations, and construction documents.
- Serve as the Engineer of Record and provide technical oversight from conceptual design through construction and closeout.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other disciplines.
- Review project requirements, applicable codes, existing conditions, and design criteria to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and technical questions and provide timely engineering responses.
- Conduct site investigations, field surveys, inspections, and construction observations.
- Evaluate design conflicts, code issues, constructability concerns, and field conditions and develop appropriate solutions.
- Provide cost-conscious engineering recommendations while maintaining system performance, code compliance, and project requirements.
- Support commissioning, inspections, punch-list activities, and final project closeout.
- Review and seal engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and other technical documents within the scope of licensure.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable quality standards.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, engineers, and other project stakeholders throughout design and construction.

Requirements

- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience designing HVAC and mechanical MEP systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, municipal, or similar facilities.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, ventilation design, energy requirements, and mechanical codes.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP , or comparable mechanical design platforms.
- Experience producing and reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules, and construction documents.
- Strong understanding of building systems coordination and multidisciplinary design.
- Excellent technical analysis, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.
- Experience working directly with architects, contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Hands-on mechanical/HVAC design experience is required.
- Experience with healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or other technically complex facilities is preferred.
- Candidates whose experience is primarily project management, administration, or coordination with limited hands-on mechanical design experience will not be considered.

Benefits

- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Retirement savings plan with company contribution.
- Paid time off and company holidays.
- Continuing education and professional development support.
- Opportunity to work on technically challenging commercial and institutional projects.
- Collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
- Long-term career growth and advancement opportunities.
