About this role

Wunderlich-Malec has an Associate Designer position available in our Winslow, ME office. This position supports delivery of electrical power system solutions through drafting and design support activities. The Associate Designer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop technical skills, contribute to project execution, and support client requirements while working under the guidance of experienced engineers. Success in this role is demonstrated through continuous learning, quality deliverables, and the ability to independently execute assigned design tasks.

Technology

- Assist in the drafting and design of electrical power systems, ensuring alignment with client requirements

- Support the drafting and design of power distribution, protection and control, or physical substation specializations for industrial, renewable, data center, and utility infrastructure projects

- Support the drafting and design process using industry-standard software tools

- Draft and revise electrical design documents including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, relay schematics, and control panel layouts

OR

- Draft and revies power one lines and phasing diagrams, control enclosure layouts, elevations and details, substation yard layouts and elevations, conduit plans and details, grounding plans and details, lighting plans and details, outage plans and construction sequencing plans

Projects

- Collaborate with internal teams and external multidisciplinary teams to support project objectives

- Work under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers

- Participate in project meetings and contribute to project planning and execution, when asked

- Support project documentation, reporting, and administrative tasks

- Identify and pursue opportunities for technical and professional growth

- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into project deliverables

- Independently execute small-to-medium tasks from technical design through completion

- Demonstrate adherence to quality standards, project procedures, and engineering best practices

Field Work & Travel

- Willingness to travel up to 10% for on-site meetings, or other site activities, when required

- Comply with safety protocols and client-specific requirements

- Valid drivers license and international passport (or ability to obtain quickly)

Education and Experience

- Associate degree in relevant field preferred

- 0 to 4 years of experience in electrical power systems design

- Entry-level internship or co-op experience in design is a plus

Physical Demands Office Environment:

- Ability to sit or stand for long periods while working at a computer or attending meetings

- Manual dexterity sufficient for typing and using standard office tools

- Visual acuity for reading technical drawings, documents, and computer screens

Working Environment Office Environment:

- Regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment

- May involve extended periods of sitting, standing or attending meetings

Work may be performed in construction, industrial, and/or substation environments:

- Exposure to low, medium and high voltage equipment

- Work around construction and industrial equipment and personnel

- Exposure to manufacturing environments with moderate to high noise levels, temperature fluctuations, moving mechanical parts, and industrial chemicals

Construction trailer and new building construction environment

- Frequent PC and cell phone usage

Typical Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) Required, if on-site presence is required:

- Safety glasses

- Steel-toed shoes

- Hearing protection

- Electrical safety PPE
