Job Description

Position Summary

A Mechanical engineering co-op will join the GD Canada mechanical engineering team and will work on various projects as resources are needed, under the close supervision of more senior engineering staff.

In this role, primary responsibilities may include:

- Prepare mechanical designs and drawings of electronic enclosures and other mechanical systems for use in rugged environments using 3D solid modeling, and 2D CAD drafting tools.  Support full design life cycle from concept through to production release, including support for prototype procurement, assembly, testing, and initial manufacturing.
- Perform thermal, stress and dynamic analysis on electronic enclosures and equipment installation designs using Ideas Finite Element tools.  Optimize designs for manufacturability, weight and cost. 
- Perform engineering tests such as thermal cycling, vibration and shock testing, in the environmental test lab.  Design test fixtures.  Prepare and execute Qualification Test Plans.  Analyze results.  Write test reports. 
- Work closely with other design professionals, especially PCB Designers, hardware engineers, purchasing personnel, manufacturing engineers to assure smooth flow of information throughout a project.
- Take part in process improvement activities aimed at improving the quality of designs, and improving efficiency.

Qualifications

What You Need to Have to Succeed

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, or an applicable scientific discipline.

What Makes You Stand Out

- Design for vibration and shock environments.
- Design for cooling of electronics. 
- Design for harsh climatic environments, corrosive environments. 
- Design of sheet metal, machined and welded parts.
- Finite element analysis, thermal, structural and dynamic.
- Familiarity with UGS NX or other comparable CAD system.
- Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. You must be eligible to work in Canada.

Additional Information

Compensation 
The expected hourly rate for this position is $24.92 - $33.23. Final compensation will be determined based on your relevant work experience to date. As part of student placement, you will be eligible for quarterly pay increases.
