Essential Job Functions

- Provides overall day to day management and direction of Cancer Registry and abstracting activities. Oversee all duties and responsibilities of the oncology data staff. Establishes work schedules and monitors and approves time off requests and time worked.
- Responds to Cancer Registry/Abstracting data and report requests made by Client, physicians, and other internal customers.
- Utilizes database queries and reports to perform various auditing functions.
- Provides oversight for Cancer Registry case identification, abstracting, monitors timeliness of data collection, follow-up, state case submissions as well as provides information to the client from data requests. Provides summary and individual feedback to oncology data staff for performance improvement and compliance purposes. With assistance from the Director, reports findings to Client monthly and identifies area for oncology data specialist education.
- Maintains a knowledge base of ICD-O, AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, Hematopoietic and Lymphoid Database and Manual, SEER Coding and Staging Manual, SSDI Manual, Solid Tumor Manual, Multiple Primaries and Histology Manual, SEER Rx Database and STOR Manual.
- Provides ongoing training and in-service programs for oncology data staff to support corporate compliance.
- Assists with system analysis, implementation, testing, database management, maintenance, accuracy, regulatory compliance, troubleshooting, and security of registry software systems as well as interfaces and databases.
- Provides suggested changes to policies and procedures for the cancer registry, including Commission on Cancer Program Standards for both Omega and the clients.
- Oversees that year end abstracting is closed out within the established client and state registry timelines.
- Prepares management reports on oncology data productivity and quality.
- Provides input on performance reviews, recommends and/or initiates employee selection, promotion, disciplinary and/or discharge actions. Work with Omega Healthcare team to perform vetting on candidates to assure appropriate client assignment.
- Coordinates oncology data staff meetings, keep staff informed of standard setter changes, developments, and events.
- Provides expertise in the areas of coding, abstracting, state reporting, and reporting of codified and abstracted data.
- Assists with system analysis, implementation, testing, database management, maintenance, accuracy, regulatory compliance, troubleshooting, and security of coding/abstracting systems, interfaces, databases, and reporting tools for systems using coding/abstracting data.
- Abides by the standards of the Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Cancer Registrars Association.
- Prepares and completes weekly Omega Healthcare metrics report.
- Meet budgetary goals per client agreement and achieve margins determined by Omega Healthcare.
- Meet all SLAs for client engagement.
- Oversees management of abstracting productivity and quality as well as manages staffing resources to accommodate goals within expected deadlines and financial targets.
- Demonstrates the ability to attract, recognize, retain and manage staff and to effectively utilize staff to enhance the facilities and Omega Healthcare organizational performance.
- Perform duties in compliance with Company’s policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to HIPAA and compliance.

Required Education and Experience

- Oncology Data Specialist-Certified (ODS-C)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management or related field or equivalent experience and formal learning.
- Minimum of three years of registry or other health-related management experience or six years of experience at an NCI-designated or University setting.
- Approved to abstract at CoC-approved facilities.

Preferred Education and Experience

- CoC-trained Consultant or AHIMA Certification as a RHIA or RHIT a plus.
