About this role
Do you love designing clean game architecture, building multiplayer systems that run smoothly, and helping a team of programmers make the right technical decisions? Great! Let’s talk.
Triband is the award-winning studio behind the WHAT THE? comedy game series, played by millions worldwide. From our home in central Copenhagen, more than 60 wonderful humans are united by a simple mission: to make everyone laugh.
We're building something unannounced, exciting, thoroughly goofy, and built to be played together online. We're now looking for a Lead Game Programmer to help building the underlying systems that make it all work, from the core architecture to the multiplayer tech that connects our players. You'll stay hands-on in the code and the Unity editor while helping the programming team make good technical decisions, stay aligned, and build systems that support creative experimentation. And just to be very clear: this is a technical leadership role, not a people-management position .
Here’s what that looks like day to day
- In collaboration with game designers, artists, and other programmers, you’ll build new features and systems and continuously iterate on improvements. We all work in Unity with C#, with every team member hands-on in the editor
- You’ll set and communicate the project’s technical direction, turning creative goals and production needs into clear technical priorities
- You’ll help the programming team make architectural decisions, align around shared patterns, and navigate trade-offs between long-term code health and short-term needs
- You’ll review and improve technical solutions, share best practices, and support other programmers without becoming a gatekeeper or bottleneck
- You’ll proactively identify technical risks, messy systems, and missing foundations, and take responsibility for addressing them at the right time
- Overall, you’ll make sure the project is technically healthy and maintain the codebase in a way that makes it easy for others to build on
This includes things like...
- Designing an architecture that allows for easy gameplay implementation and flexibility
- Implementing and maintaining online features such as matchmaking, invites and friends
- Profiling and improving network performance, bandwidth and latency, and making sure the game holds up on real-world connections
- Breaking down complex technical challenges, helping decide what to prioritise, and ensuring important decisions are understood by the people they affect
- Staying close to the actual game: writing production code, debugging difficult problems, and improving systems as the project evolves
You’re a great match if
- You have at least ten years of professional game development experience across multiple shipped games and different stages of development, including significant technical ownership or leadership on a project
- You have experience setting technical direction and helping a programming team make and implement architectural decisions, with strong judgment in balancing flexibility, maintainability, performance and the needs of a creative production
- You're highly proficient in C# and have deep knowledge of the Unity engine and editor
- You've shipped at least one online multiplayer game, had real ownership of its networking/online systems, and have hands-on experience with a Unity multiplayer framework (e.g., Coherence)
- You communicate clearly and can explain technical decisions and trade-offs to programmers and non-programmers alike
Nice to haves
- You have experience shipping iOS and macOS apps, including hands-on integration of Apple platform services such as GameKit and the Game Controller framework using Xcode and Swift
- Experience with backend services, dedicated servers or cloud hosting for online games
- Interest in multiplayer game design and social features
- Experience working with automated build pipelines such as Jenkins
- Experience building systemic or open-world games
What always matters to us at Triband
- You thrive in taking ownership of your area: you spot problems, seek advice when needed, and implement creative solutions that push projects forward
- You’re motivated by collaboration, mutual respect, inclusiveness and creativity while actively contributing to sustaining that culture
- You believe games are made by teams, not rockstars and that great ideas can come from anyone
- You bring curiosity, generosity, and flexibility, along with strong opinions, especially when they come with reasoning, openness, and a willingness to actually test them
- You love exploration and experimentation but don’t get too precious when the evidence tells you you’re wrong
- You value a positive work environment and contribute to keeping the studio a fun and supportive place to be
Practicalities
- We work on-site at our cozy office in central Copenhagen.
- For this role we also consider people located outside of Denmark and provide financial (and moral!) support with visa application and relocation.
- We work a 37-hour work week, with core hours 10-15, and the freedom to start and finish anywhere between 7 and 18.
- Our working language is English.
We offer
- Silly but ambitious projects, and the chance to work on and impact great games that reach millions of players.
- A playful and ambitious work environment where experimentation is encouraged.
- Friendly and kind colleagues who love making each other laugh as much as making games.
- A professional development budget to invest in your growth.
- Social activities like Friday bars, hobby nights, board game nights, team events, you name it.
- Daily lunch at a local restaurant just a walk across the lakes away, with plant-based options (and soft ice on Thursdays).
- Six weeks of vacation (five standard plus one extra on us).
- Paid parental leave at full salary for the periods covered by state reimbursement.
- Child's first sick day on us, no questions asked.
- Pension plan and private health insurance.
- Endless amounts of Faxe Kondi.
