Senior Advisor — Sustainability & ESG

The role
This is a client-facing advisory role for an experienced sustainability practitioner who takes ownership of day-to-day project delivery and client relationships. You will independently manage small to large engagements, lead client-facing situations and all day-to-day client contact and guide junior team members to deliver high-quality work.
You will work primarily with financial-sector clients - private markets GPs and LPs make up the majority of our work - with a growing corporate portfolio. We are looking for a strong ESG and sustainability generalist who can work across Holtara's domains and verticals, connect different areas of expertise, and confidently translate client needs into practical solutions.
You will report to an Advisory Lead and work closely with colleagues across Advisory, Holtara.io and Apex Group.
What you will do
Client delivery & engagement leadership
- Independently manage the day-to-day delivery of small and large sustainability and ESG engagements from proposal through delivery.
- Take the lead in client-facing situations and manage day-to-day client contact with investors, fund managers, financial institutions and corporates.
- Translate sustainability challenges into practical, commercially relevant solutions.
- Match the right Holtara offering to each client's situation, drawing on the full advisory and technology toolkit.
- Manage client stakeholders, anticipate project needs and build trusted relationships.
Sustainability & ESG Advisory
As a generalist, you will lead or contribute across Holtara's ESG and sustainability domains and verticals, including:
- Sustainable finance
- ESG due diligence
- Value chain sustainability
- ESG and sustainability strategy
- ESG value creation programmes
- Portfolio monitoring and ESG data management
- ESG reporting and disclosure (SFDR, CSRD, EU Taxonomy and related regulations)
Business Development & Growth
- Develop trusted relationships with existing and prospective clients, with support from senior colleagues.
- Actively contribute to commercial activities, proposals and pitch processes.
- Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and cross-sell services, working with senior colleagues to progress them.
- Contribute to thought leadership and market positioning.
Team
- Guide, coach and manage junior team members on a day-to-day basis across active engagements.
- Work independently while actively contributing to a high-quality and collaborative team culture.

What you will bring
- 4+ years of experience in sustainability consulting, ESG advisory, sustainable finance, or a related sustainability field; strategy consulting is deemed a plus.
- Strong experience with financial-sector clients - private markets (GP/LP) highly valued, corporates welcome as we broaden - including independently managing projects and day-to-day client relationships.
- Proven ability to independently manage engagements, lead client-facing situations and manage project stakeholders end to end.
- Broad knowledge across ESG and sustainability domains, with the ability and curiosity to work as a generalist across Holtara's verticals.
- Strong team leadership and coaching capabilities, with experience guiding analysts and other junior colleagues.
- Independent and entrepreneurial mindset, combined with a collaborative approach and willingness to contribute wherever needed.
Practical details
- Location . Amsterdam / Netherlands - hybrid, with travel to clients and Holtara offices as needed. The role requires regular in-office presence (four days per week in the office, one from home).
- Reporting line . Advisory Lead, working closely with other sustainability advisors, the technology team and Apex Group colleagues.
- Education . Degree in finance, economics, business, sustainability or a related discipline. Professional fluency in Dutch and English is required; German is a strong advantage.
