About this role
Job Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Team: PPA Plus
About PPA: The Player Progression Academy is a multi-sport youth academy serving the NW
DC/Montgomery County Region. Our Plus division spans Tots (ages 2–5) and Afterschool soccer, basketball and volleyball programs - bringing structured, coach-led youth sports to kids at their earliest introduction to the game. With an expansive community of over 3000 players, a dedicated team of over 100 coaches, and an office staff of 20 individuals, PPA is committed to fostering player development both inside and outside of the lines.
The Role: We're looking for a reliable, energetic, and organized contractor to fill a dual role on
our PPA Plus team. You'll spend the majority of your time on the field/court leading youth
sports programming — facilitating fun, developmentally appropriate activities for children ages
2.5–10. The rest of your time will be focused on equipment coordination: keeping our program
stocked, organized, and running smoothly every weekend.
This is a boots-on-the-ground role that requires someone who's equally comfortable wrangling a
group of kids and managing a storage unit full of cones and jerseys. If you have a
background in education or recreation, love working with kids, and take
pride in keeping operations organized and on time — this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
On the Field/Court (~10–12 hrs/week, 6 days/week)
• Coach Afterschool soccer and/or basketball and/or volleyball clinics (minimum 4 hrs/week, Mon–Fri, between 3-5pm)
• Coach Tots (ages 2.5–5) soccer and/or basketball (minimum 6 hrs/weekend, between 9am-1pm) — think games, movement activities, and skill-building through play. PPA provides the curriculum.
• Create a safe, welcoming, and energetic environment for young children and their families.
• Adapt activities in real time based on group size, age, and energy level
• Serve as a positive face of the PPA brand at all sessions
Equipment Coordination (~6 hrs/weekend in-season; ~5–10 hrs/week pre-season)
• Order, organize, and manage distribution of PPA Plus coaching equipment
• Coordinate with PPA Plus coaches to ensure all staff have appropriate PPA gear (coaching shirts, equipment, etc.)
• Deliver and pick up weekend equipment for Tots programming each week
• Maintain organized inventory and flag restocking needs proactively
• Manage pre-season equipment setup in the weeks leading up to each season launch
What We're Looking For:
• Experience working with children (ages 2–10) in a sports, childcare, recreation, or educational setting
• Comfortable and patient with kids and their families
• Strong organizational skills — you stay on top of logistics without being reminded
• Reliable, punctual, and communicative
• Ability to lift and transport sports equipment independently
• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and access to an SUV, minivan, or similar vehicle capable of transporting equipment
• Must be local to the NW DC/Montgomery County area
• Prior youth sports, rec, or childcare experience strongly preferred
Work Schedule & Location:
• ~15 hrs/week average (seasonal fluctuation — heavier pre-season, lighter off-season)
• Day time weekend work required (~9am-1pm)
• Coaching sessions run 6 days/week during active seasons
• Weekend equipment runs required during all active Tots seasons
• Must be based in or near NW DC/Montgomery County— this role is fully in-person
Personal vehicle required for equipment transport (SUV, minivan, or similar)
Compensation: $1,750/month
• Tots & School Program Instruction → $40/hr
• Equipment Coordination → $30/hr
• Gas Stipend → $100/mo | Vehicle fuel reimbursement
• Vehicle Stipend → $100/mo | Personal vehicle use
*Performance Bonus: Contractors who demonstrate consistent reliability, quality instruction, and
strong equipment management are eligible for performance-based bonus compensation. Bonus
eligibility is reviewed seasonally.
