Job Description

NBC Sports is looking for an experienced Transmission Operator to support live broadcast operations from our Stamford facility. In this role, you'll coordinate with internal teams, transmission providers, and technology partners to ensure reliable, high-quality content delivery for some of the biggest events in sports, including the Olympics, NFL, NBA, golf, and soccer.

The ideal candidate has experience with broadcast transmission technologies such as fiber, satellite, bonded cellular, IP-based transport, video, and audio systems, along with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to perform in a fast-paced live production environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinates transmission activities and check-ins for high-profile sporting events using the company-wide scheduling system.
- Works closely with Operations and Production teams to support transmission and routing needs and ensure high-quality broadcast delivery.
- Monitors and troubleshoots on-air video, audio, satellite, communications, and multiplexed signals across multiple broadcast streams.
- Partners with transmission carriers to resolve issues, manage escalations, coordinate maintenance, and maintain reliable service.
- Establishes standard operation procedures for transmission activities, including remote check-ins, quality control processes, ingest, and outgoing feeds.
- Provides transmission support and feed coordination for internal partners across the organization.
- Collaborates with Engineering to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Assists with equipment setup, testing, and configuration as needed.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

- 2+ years of broadcast, transmission, media operations, or related live production experience.
- Knowledge of broadcast transmission and media transport systems, including fiber, satellite, and IP-based workflows.
- Ability to troubleshoot video, audio, and communications signals.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple live events simultaneously.
- Ability to assist with critical decision-making in time-sensitive, live broadcast environments
- Experience working in a 24/7 operational environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Characteristics

- Experience supporting live sports or large-scale live event broadcasts.
- Experience supporting REMI / remote production models.
- Ability to interpret signal flow documentation (CAD drawings) and perform systems-level troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting matrix communications systems and large-scale routing infrastructures.
- Familiarity with SMPTE 2110 environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-based media transport and IP video workflows.
- Experience working with H.264, HEVC, JPEG2000, ASI, and 4K workflows.
