Job Overview
The Landscaper performs landscape, grounds, and related property maintenance services throughout the Parkmerced Apartment Complex. The position is responsible for maintaining landscaped areas and exterior property conditions through routine grounds maintenance, planting, irrigation support, cleanup, equipment operation, and other duties within the applicable scope of work.
Employees may be assigned different responsibilities based on operational needs, experience, training, qualifications, and equipment proficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform mowing, edging, weed eating, hedge trimming, pruning, blowing, and general landscape maintenance.
- Plant and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, lawns, and landscaped areas.
- Hand-water plants and flowers and assist with irrigation maintenance.
- Apply fertilizers and other landscape treatments as assigned and when properly trained and authorized.
- Operate landscape equipment such as mowers, hedge trimmers, stick edgers, weed eaters, blowers, tillers, turf equipment, and other assigned machinery.
- Assist with digging, trenching, irrigation, soil preparation, planting, bark installation, and related landscape work.
- Pick up trash, leaves, branches, landscape debris, and other materials throughout the property.
- Perform power washing and mechanical or manual street sweeping as assigned.
- Clean exterior property areas, which may include gutters, roofs, carports, garages, vacant units, dog stations, and waste collection areas.
- Move garbage containers and assist with moving dumpsters from carports or other areas to compactors as assigned.
- Assist with move-outs, property events, signs, banners, and other site support activities within the applicable scope of work.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, and assigned equipment.
- Inspect equipment before use and report damage, mechanical problems, safety hazards, or needed repairs.
- Follow instructions regarding the handling and use of landscaping products and chemicals.
- Maintain tools, equipment, storage areas, and workspaces in clean and orderly condition.
- Follow all company, site, and applicable safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
- Report unsafe conditions, property damage, equipment concerns, and other operational issues to the Foreman or management.
- Perform other landscape and property maintenance duties within the applicable scope of work as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of landscape and ground maintenance practices preferred.
- Ability to safely use common landscape hand tools and power equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
- Ability to work safely around residents, pedestrians, vehicles, buildings, and other employees.
- Ability to learn additional equipment and maintenance functions as assigned.
Qualifications
Physical Demands
The position requires regular physical activity, including standing and walking for extended periods; bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive hand and arm movements.
Employees must be able to safely lift, carry, push, and move tools, equipment, landscaping materials, plants, debris, waste containers, and other materials associated with assigned work.
Work may require walking and working on grass, soil, slopes, pavement, uneven surfaces, and other outdoor terrain.
Work Environment
Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, sunlight, dust, dirt, pollen, noise, landscape chemicals, machinery, and moving equipment.
Employees are required to use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all applicable safety procedures.
