About this role

About this role

Your team

The Enterprise Resilience team manages BlackRock’s business resilience programs (operational resilience, business continuity, and IT disaster recovery). These programs help the company prepare for disruptions and disasters.

Within Enterprise Resilience, a small technical group maintains the applications and services used by the team.

We are looking for a full stack Typescript developer to join this group. The role will be based in our Edinburgh office and managed remotely from San Francisco.

Your role and impact

You will help develop, maintain and document our internal services, written in Typescript. You will strengthen existing code and implement new features, including but not limited to data feeds, scheduled jobs, and dashboards. You will design and implement REST APIs, write tests, help stakeholders, deploy releases, fix bugs, and more.

Our team culture is collaborative and encourages team members to build relationships. You will partner with local non-technical colleagues, learning about their projects and sharing your own. You will learn about the domain you’re working in, developing a good understanding of business resilience. You should be comfortable organizing your daily workload, taking the initiative on problems, and communicating proactively.

We offer a choice of macOS or Windows. You will have access to advanced coding models such as Claude Opus, which you can use to enhance and validate your work.

Your responsibilities

In every role at BlackRock, you'll be expected to apply sound judgement and critical thinking to solve complex problems, adapt as the business evolves, and combine the curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies with the rigor to challenge the results. The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:

- You will help develop, maintain and document our internal services, written in Typescript.

- You will strengthen existing code and implement new features, including but not limited to data feeds, scheduled jobs, and dashboards.

- You will design and implement REST APIs, write tests, help stakeholders, deploy releases, fix bugs, and more.

- You will typically work with a technology stack that includes Prisma ORM, Postgres, Fastify and React. You may work on varied projects depending on your skill set. Our current focus areas include process automation, reporting, disaster simulation and agentic AI.

- You may also get involved with the development of our Salesforce instance, used as a company-wide resilience planning tool. (Prior Salesforce experience is not required.)

- You will partner with local non-technical colleagues, learning about their projects and sharing your own.

- You should be comfortable organizing your daily workload, taking the initiative on problems, and communicating proactively.

Your experience

Required

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

- Excellent, up-to-date Typescript skills, with experience using Typescript to develop server-side or desktop applications.

- Exceptional problem solving skills: able to evaluate evidence objectively, think critically, and propose rational solutions.

- Some experience developing REST API endpoints.

- Some web development experience with a good understanding of basic web technologies.

- Some experience using relational databases, either via raw SQL or an ORM.

- Experience using Git in a collaborative team environment.

- Comfortable with command line tools.

- Ability to work effectively in cross functional teams.

Preferred

- Experience developing agentic or prompt-chained AI applications.

- Experience with the React web development framework, or strong web development skills with the ability to pick up new frameworks quickly. Able to create professional looking UIs.

Nice to have

- Experience with business resilience, or in a role with a holistic view of organizational structures.

- Experience as a Salesforce developer or administrator.

- Experience developing or modding strategy games (we are interested in gamification).
